This year, our class is going to utilize the behavior clipchart and the DOJO point system. I want to make clear the difference between the two, so we can use both these formats successfully!

-The clipchart is for the KIDS, the DOJO is for YOU!

  • Students do not have full day access to the dojo system like you do, so we need to keep the clipchart in place for them to see the successes of their behavior as they move up! It is a great

visual for them to see their progress

automatically. Students earn happy-

grams and clip up throughout the day

for behaviors spotlighted; as a result

their classmates will take their lead in good choices!

-There are no set points to receive each day.

  • I will utilize dojo points during small group

time when I am teaching a lesson. The students can hear the beep of a point being given, so they will be encouraged to continue making right choices. The positive points are a way for me to motivate good choices without interrupting my teaching. Dojo helps me vocalize the independent good choices I see happening around the room without saying a word. It keeps the learning environment quiet and flowing!

-Pay attention to the points being taken away.

  • We work on a “three strikes, you’re out” discipline system. If a student has to be reminded about the same behavior three times, then it will result in a clip down AND a dojo point being taken away. I will only take away dojo points if the behavior is repeated three times, so please discuss any dojo point reductions with your child at home. This is my way of saying that a student needs some extra encouragement at home to be their best at school.

DOJO is a great way for you and I to communicate daily as needed. I will check DOJO messages at least twice a day. This will be while your child is at specials (9:20) and during dismissal. Please do not expect instant feedback, since I may be preoccupied with your favorite little ones! Our classroom will always be a positive environment for your child to learn and feel safe. With all of us working together, your child will receive the best type of learning during their first grade year!

Thank you in advance for your support and encouragement throughout the year!
