The Cleansing, The Calling, And The Consenting

Isaiah 5:1-8 (NKJV)
1 Now let me sing to my Well-beloved A song of my Beloved regarding His vineyard: My Well-beloved has a vineyard On a very fruitful hill.
2 He dug it up and cleared out its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, And also made a winepress in it; So He expected it to bring forth good grapes, But it brought forth wild grapes.
3 "And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, Judge, please, between Me and My vineyard.
4 What more could have been done to My vineyard That I have not done in it? Why then, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes, Did it bring forth wild grapes?
5 And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down.
6 I will lay it waste; It shall not be pruned or dug, But there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds That they rain no rain on it."
7 For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.
8 Woe to those who join house to house; They add field to field, Till there is no place Where they may dwell alone in the midst of the land!

Introduction:

  • Isaiah is in the midst of hardship……. King Uzziah had died……
  • Instead of complaining or hiding he went to the temple of God….
  • While there he saw the Lord High and Lifted Up…..

1. Isaiah Saw That The Whole Earth IS Full Of The Glory Of The Lord!

A. Not was - Not Just for a moment - Not Will be

B. But….IS…. Right NOW!

C. Some Have Seen the Glory Of God:

1) Moses in Exodus 3

a) Burning Bush

b) Holy Ground - “put off thy shoes”

c) Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look upon God

2) Moses in Exodus 33

a) God had Moses to hid in the cliff of the rock

b) According to the Greek text, Moses saw the afterglow of the glory of

the Lord.

c) The people couldn’t look on his face…. He had to put on a veil after

being in the Glory of God

Page 2

3) Solomon saw the glory of the Lord at the dedication of the temple

4) Others have seen His Glory:

a) Jeremiah

b) Paul on the Damascus Road

5) We have witnessed His Glory around Here

a) His Glory is still REAL

b) The Whole Earth is STILL full of His Glory

c) Everyone must stand back in reverence to His Glory

D. OH, if we could see and respond to His Glory like the Children of Israel did according to Numbers 9:

1) A Cloud by Day And A Pillar of Fire By Night

2) They moved with the Glory

a) When it stopped - they stopped

b) When it moved - they moved

E. We need to do the same thing …MOVE, STOP, RUN, JUMP, DANCE, SING, CRY,

Whatever and Wherever the Glory of God leads!

2. When Isaiah Saw The Glory of The Lord, He Then Began To See Himself!

A. vs 5 - “Woe is me.”

B. Isaiah wasn’t pleasure seeking when he saw the Glory of the Lord

1) He wasn’t galloping from Dan to Beershaba

2) He was in the temple……., The place of prayer……..,

The place of meditation……, The place of worship……

  • You’re not going to see God’s Glory while watching some carnal T.V. show…..or while reading the funnies………, or even while reading about or watching the happenings around the world yesterday.
  • Seeing the Glory of God comes through preparation: Reading the Word, Praying a prayer, Singing a Song, Giving Praise to God, etc.

C. Isaiah was already a prophet

1) He was in Full-Time Service

2) He was pronouncing woes in all directions before he got around to

declaring……”Woe Is Me.”

Page 3

Many seem satisfied the way they are, or have been for several years!

BUT, OH if they could get in the presence of the Glory of God, Changes would take place……….

D. It took a national disaster to stun Isaiah into prayer, worship and meditation……

E. It may take a hardship (most of the time it does) - But see God in His Glory and then you will see Yourself.

F. Being In God’s Glory brings Conviction and Repentance:

1) Isaiah cried in

Isaiah 6:5 So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts."

2) Job responded the same way in

Job 42:5-6 "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You.
6 Therefore I abhor myself,And repent in dust and ashes."

3. Isaiah WitnessedThe Mercy Of God

A. Isaiah had seen God on His throne - High and Lifted Up

B. But now He witnesses personally the Mercy of God

C. God anointed Isaiah’s unclean lips with a live coal of fire taken off the altar of God

D. Why Lips and not heart, or mind?

1) Matthew 12:34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

2) Proverbs 21:23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles.

3) 1 Peter 3:10 For "He who would love lifeAnd see good days,Let him refrain his tongue from evil,And his lips from speaking deceit.

4) James devotes the entire 5th chapter to the tongue

5) Our Lips need purging with the fire of God’s altar

Page 4

a)We repent with our lips

Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

b)Faith is expressed by our lips:

Romans 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

c) We Praise with our lips:

Hebrews 13:15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

d) We testify with our lips:

Psalm 107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so…

6) As the seraphim touched the lips of Isaiah - He spoke the Mercy of God to

Isaiah

Isaiah 6:7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged."

7) We need for God to purge our lips that we speak the goodness of God

8) No wonder the Holy Spirit uses our tongue and lips……

4. Praise God For His Mercy!

A. I’m glad I know Him as a Holy; Just; Righteous; Majestic; Exalted; Unchangeable;

Omniscient; Omnipotent; Omnipresent; Noble; and Sovereign God ……..

B. But I’m more grateful for His Mercy!

1) His mercy makes Him aware of Who I am

2) His mercy makes Him aware of My Needs
