  1. Position overview

This role is responsible for the cleaning of all designated administration offices, ablution blocks, Irrante Café, Kitchen and classrooms at the Desert Peoples Centre. This also includes all Batchelor Institute buildings and accommodation located at the Bloomfield Street campus. The cleaning is in accordance with the cleaning scope of works schedule.

  1. Duties and Responsibilities

The Cleaner will be required to undertake a range of responsibilities including:

  1. Daily cleaning of buildings and associated fittings and fixtures carry out duties as per scope of works schedule:

Tasks include, though are not limited to the following:

  • Vacuum carpets.
  • Dust offices, ceiling fans and vents.
  • Remove Cobwebs
  • Stripe and re-polish vinyl floors.
  • Clean doors, windows and walls.
  • Hose/blow cements areas, paths and breezeway and rake up leaves.
  • Sweep and mop tiled surfaces.
  • Keep ablution blocks and tiled are clean at all times.
  • Remove any graffiti and pick up/rake rubbish on grounds.
  • Keep all windows in buildings clean.
  • Removal of rubbish and bins are put out for collections.

2.Twice yearly conduct the detailed clean of the Bloomfield St Student Accommodation.

  1. Annually conduct the detailed clean of DPC/Bloomfield St buildings.
  1. Undertake cleaning program and ad hoc tasks as required by the Campus Operations Manager across all areas of the DPC and Bloomfield St.
  1. Report any incidents of vandalism and breakages to the Campus Operations Manager including identification of work health and safety considerations.
  1. Carry out regular rubbish removal from campus buildings and maintain buildings to presentable standard.
  1. Ensure stock control and order cleaning chemicals and equipment as required through the Campus Operations Manager.
  1. Maintain and asset register of all major cleaning equipment with the Maintenance officer.
  1. Maintain up to date training in all areas of Work Health and Safety, Fire safety awareness, chemical handling, first aid and other appropriate training relevant to cleaning standards.
  1. With the guidance from Administration officer and Maintenance Officer to assist with vehicle checks and delivery. Responsible for the cleaning and checking of any damages of all pool and project vehicles.
  1. Assist in setting up and settling down pf events and functions hosted by the Institute.
  1. Assist with furniture removal as well as assisting staff with office moves.
  1. Inspect walkways keeping them clean and safe for regular traffic. Report any damages to the Campus Operations Manager.
  1. Ensure relevant Work Health and safety guidelines are followed and report areas of concern to Campus Operations Manager.
  1. Provide support services as directed by the Campus Operations Manager for special campus events including graduation ceremonies.
  1. Other duties as directed by the campus Operations Manager commensurate with the skill base for the position.

Essential selection criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in cleaning residential, office and classroom environments and an understanding of the standard required when cleaning in these areas. This includes experience in floor resealing and carpet cleaning.
  • Self-motivated and proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Proven ability to be flexible and work across a variety of skills.
  • Ability to act on own initiative in contributing to ongoing improvements in work practices, and the solving of unusual challenges.
  • Demonstratedabilitytoworkeffectivelyandsensitivelywithinthesocial,political,diverse academic,socioeconomic,cultural,disability,andculturalenvironmentsofan Indigenous organisation.
  • An ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Sound knowledge of cleaning chemicals and related WH&S codes and standards.
  • Current NT "C" Class drivers licence.

Desirable selection criteria

  • Current NT "LR" Class drivers licence or the ability to obtain one.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate
