CAFOD Aid Reaches remote Nepal Villages

Ten days after the Nepal earthquake, CAFOD and its partners have reached more than 30,000 people in urgent need with food, shelter and hygiene kits. Thanks to the donations of Catholics in England & Wales, CAFOD and its partners have delivered aid to thousands of people in remote villages that were devastated by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on 25th April. Matthew Carter, CAFOD’s Humanitarian Director, said: “As ever after a major disaster, the generosity of Catholics across the country is astounding. It will take years for the people of Nepal to recover completely, but our solidarity and prayers are already making a huge difference.” More than 7,000 people were killed by the earthquake and at least 2.8 million have been forced from their homes. Thank you so much for your generosity last weekend which amounted to £815. This has already been sent to CAFOD to use as soon as possible.

OUR SINCERE PARISH THANKS

Go to Michael Woodford who has resigned from the Parish Finance Committee and who has acted as Chair for the past seventeen years. Thank you, Michael for your sterling work and commitment to the parish. The reward for ‘good work’ is ‘even more work’, so I am sure that there will still be lots to do. God Bless You.

I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

115. Q. Under what names and signs does the Holy Spirit appear?

A.  The Holy Spirit descends upon Jesus in the form of a dove. The first Christians experience the Holy Spirit as a healing ointment, living water, a raging storm, or a flaming fire. Jesus Christ himself speaks about the Counsellor, Comforter, Teacher and Spirit of Truth. In the sacraments of the Church, the Holy Spirit is bestowed through the imposition of hands and anointing with oil. The peace that God established in his covenant with mankind after the flood was indicated to Noah through the appearance of a dove. Pagan antiquity, too, considered the dove to be a symbol of love. So the early Christians understood immediately why the Holy Spirit, the love of God in person, came down in the form of a dove when Jesus allowed himself to be baptised in the Jordan. Today the dove is recognised worldwide as the sign of peace and as one of the great symbols for the reconciliation of man with God.
