Hello Everyone! Thank you so much for wanting to help our organization better the lives of the felines in our program!! My name is Ann and I have been the head cat Coordinator for Cherokee Humane Society for the past 5 years. I have 3 kids (Haley is 13, Christian is 12, and Payden is 10) and a husband. I can’t thank you enough and welcome! We use an app called GroupMe that will allow all of us to be able to not only talk and ask questions but also will keep everyone in the loop as to what happening, events, scheduling changes etc. I am attaching the volunteer sheet, please complete it and email it back to me or fax it 770-592-8071. I need one for everyone volunteering, adults and kids.

The cat room cleaning procedure is very straight forward and simple...

*Make sure the glass is always clean. First impression is everything! ;)

*Each enclosure gets fully sprayed down with the "Dog Watch" cleaner provided by Petsmart, make sure to spray the entire cage and cage door as well, and then wipe residue up. Use different paper towel for each cage to avoid spreading any germs that may be lurking.

*When it comes to linens we use carpet squares or towels. Please be mindful of not switching out all the laundry every day. It is hard to get someone to take home the laundry and keep up when that occur. Unless they have had bodily fluids, food, or are wet/nasty, please just shake the out and refold them furry side in.

*All litter boxes are to be scooped, please do NOT dump them every day (Petsmart allows us to use their litter and we have to be weary on using too much) If the box is not scoop-able then please dump it, take in back room there is a floor drain in the corner where they fill the mop buckets, spray the boxes with the dog watch and then hose out, dry and return to cat room . If there is only a small spot on the box you can just spray it with the watch dog and then wipe off with paper towel or Clorox wipe.

*Please make sure to refill water pitchers, restock paper towels if used the last of them (found in back loading area by wash station), fresh trash bag in trash can at the end of each shift so the next shift is ready to start with supplies.

*Sweep the floor, Mop if necessary.

*Double check to make sure every cage has a food, water bowl in the front of the cage away from box, and that the box is at the back of the cage. It’s easy to miss something when there is a lot going on.

*Please make sure every cat has at least one toy. :)

*Trash is to be taken out at the end of every shift, cuts down on insects and the smell, make sure the bag is tied tight before you put it in the grey roller trash cans in the back-loading room.

*There is a white board in the room that lists the cats, and their special needs, also a chart on who works what days. Please feel free to reach out to another cleaner to have your shift covered if you can not make it. If for any reason you cant make it and cant find coverage please let me know so I can go clean it .

*If we are close to being out of something please let me know before it is gone so I can have time to restock it. :)

*Once you get more comfortable with the procedure and the cats, please allow them out to play in the room while you clean their cage, this exercise makes the felines more relaxed while in the enclosure and also allows them time to socialize. Please don't let out more than you are comfortable with. Also if there is any question that a particular cat may be sick, getting sick, or something along those lines do not let them out with the other, contact me to get that cat either removed or properly medicated depending on the conditions.

*While you are cleaning, if you feel comfortable, and someone wants to see a particular cat please allow them to do so, could mean the difference between that cat going home then and not 6 weeks late. The Petsmart Manager can do the adoption if anyone chooses to adopt. If someone is questionable please have the fill out an adoption application from the clip board on the cart and then tell them I will contact them after I review the application.

Once I get everyone signed up and schedule worked out I will post a list of everyone's numbers at the Petsmart as well and we can keep in touch with group-me! I cant wait to get everyone started! I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and the kitties thank you too!

Welcome aboard!!!
