F O R A P P L I C A N T S

The Caroline and Joseph S. Gruss Scholarship For Study At Israeli Universities has been established at The George Washington University to support and encourage recent graduates planning graduate study at an Israeli University.

AWARD

Award covers tuition costs for one year of the graduate program.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • US Citizen
  • Applicant must be a graduating senior or recent graduate of any GW undergraduate school. The bachelor’s degree should have been received no earlier than 5 years prior to the time of application, and recent graduates should not have begun other graduate studies leading to a degree prior to application.
  • Minimum 3.4 GPA

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

  • Quality and relevance of proposed study for candidate’s intellectual, personal and/or professional development, as described in the statement of academic purpose
  • Academic accomplishments
  • Preference is given for applicants planning to attend: Hebrew University, Ben Gurion University or Bar Ilan University
  • Evidence of prior consistent commitment to public service, especially to the Jewish community.
  • Preference is given for applicants who have studied at a Jewish elementary and/or secondary school; show interests and aptitude in pursuing Hebrew language and the study of Jewish culture and related disciplines.
  • Quality of candidate’s personal statement. The personal statement should present an ‘intellectual autobiography’ providing a context in which to understand the statement of academic purpose.

Note: Selection is merit-based, though preference may be given to equally qualified candidates with clear evidence of financial need.

The statement of academic purpose should describe the candidates study plans and objectives at the Israeli University in questionwith reasonable detail.

Personal Statement (Please limit to a 1000 words; attach a separate sheet)

The personal statement should present an ‘intellectual autobiography’ providing a context in which to understand the statement of academic purpose and the candidate’s broader personal, educational and professional aims.

PART III

Official transcripts from GW and any other institutions attended for which GW academic credit has been awarded.

PART IV

A current resume or CV (need not be limited to one page).

PART V

Two samples of written work. At least one must have been submitted for a GW course within the past 5 years.

PART VI

Letter of admission to graduate program if available. Applications will be received prior to acceptance, but applicants must show proof of admission before scholarship funds will be disbursed.
