11The Art Work
“Godwits Return to Redcliffs”
The Artist
Merv Jerard
I am a self taught artist and have primarily used water colours in my paintings of landscapes and historic buildings. In recent years I have had tuition from Gordon Sharp, who has helped me to build on my own style to portray subjects and impressions. Often paintings within paintings, allowing water to do a lot of the work. Plegine air painting is also very challenging. My paintings are displayed in and around local city cafes and restaurants and I have sold a number of paintings overseas.

34Koji Miyazaki Brooch
“Double Leaf Brooch” in Sterling Silver
This work is not derived directly from an actual leaf shape which exists. I am using the leaf here as an image for the palm of the hand. Double leaves mean hands together (with the palms face to face). For me this image represents praying. By joining a few double leaves together, it symbolises praying together for hope. A natural image of support, growth and life. Especially designed for CMRF Wine & Art Auction.
The Artist
Koji Miyazaki
In 1988 I graduated from “Hiko Mizuno College of Jewellery”. I studied jewellery design and making, stone grading, retail layout and design. After graduation, I travelled to England, and worked for a jewellery company.
In 1991, I immigrated to New Zealand, and in 1993 opened Form Gallery during which time I have also been producing and developing my own contemporary jewellery.
