Eligibility and Application Instructions – deadline 31 March2017

This scholarship is awarded to afirst year PhD candidate at the Universitywith Canadian primary nationality in Engineering in memory of Kenneth Sutherland. Only one Scholar can be in residence in Jesus College at any one time.

The scholarship will contribute to University Composition Fees at the Home rate for 3 years maximum, subject to satisfactory research progress.Candidates should apply for an alternative award which meets the difference between the higher Overseas rate and the lower Home rate of the University Composition Fee. The scholarship will also pay College Fees and an annual contribution of £1500 to maintenance expenses.

Preference will be given to applicants who have indicated Jesus College as their first College choice in their University application.Applicants need to have applied to the University’s Graduate Admissions Office by 31 January 2017.It is hoped that all applicants will have been accepted for study by the University before the scholarship application deadline of 31 March 2017. Continuing students who are members of Jesus College are also eligible to apply. The candidate, who will be of considerable distinction, will be selected by Jesus College.

Applicants should apply by sending this application form together with a current CV and recent academic reference (in confidence) to the Graduate Administrator, Jesus College, Cambridge CB5 8BL,to arrive no later than31 March 2017. The reference should be written by someone who can offer an assessment of your academic achievements, your broader interests and your potential to contribute to the advancement of your field of study in the long term. References should be no longer than 500 words. An electronic application via email to is acceptable. Documentation from your University application form may also be used independently by the assessors to support your submission.

Please ensure that all the required application paperwork is submitted at the same time as incomplete applications will not be considered.
