HMC GAP YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS - PLEASE REMEMBER!

NB: THIS LETTER AND THE PUBLICITY SHEETS HAVE ALSO BEEN SENT BY E MAIL

Dear Head,

I hope that you will publicize The Bulkeley-Evans HMC Scholarship Awards for 2015-2016 awards for gap year projects between school and university, mention them in assemblies during this term and at the start of next term, and encourage suitable candidates of high quality to apply. If I receive an application from your school, I will then write to you asking for a reference on the boy or girl concerned. Applications should reach me by email, or post if preferred, by 30th April 2015. This is one month later than in previous years and gives possible applicants time in the Easter holidays.

We received some excellent applications last year, and we were able to give 22 awards.

The reports sent by our scholarship winners over the past few years, many of which are on our website, have been very positive about their adventures and their contribution, and about the support given by different organizations. Many have returned to their schools to talk to the Sixth Form about their experiences, and I have received encouraging letters from various Heads about the value of such communication.

I enclose two information sheets, one for the school notice board and one for your careers department. The Trustees have agreed that scholarships should be available for 2015-2016 from £400 to £600, depending on the project.

£ 1,000 awards: please contact me personally if any candidate at your school is suitable. The Trustees have agreed, as last year, that one or two scholarships of £1,000 may be awarded to candidates whose financial needs are such that a gap year project would be impossible without such an award.

Award winners have to write to the Administrator during their project, write a report for the Trustees at the end of their project and return to their school to talk to the Sixth Form about their experiences.

Full details about the scholarships, including winners over the past years, are available on the website -

This website also features some stunning reports from past winners of scholarships.

Yours sincerely,

Tony Beadles
