Context:
The Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) is an operating division of the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC). AIDR operates as a partnership between AFAC, the Australian Red Cross (ARC) and the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre (BNHCRC) under a contract with the Australian Government through Emergency Management Australia for the delivery of a range of products and professional services to the emergency management sector.This position will be employed by the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC).
AIDR develops, maintains and shares knowledge and learning to support a disaster resilient Australia. AIDR achieves this by delivering Knowledge Management with activities promoting the development, collection and sharing of disaster resilience knowledge and Professional Development through activities around using the knowledge through learning and practice to enhance disaster resilience.

AFAC is the facilitator and custodian of contemporary fire and emergency service knowledge and practice, for the benefit of our members and through them, the community. We will be recognised and have impact as the National Council for fire and emergency services, through collaboration and influence.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
This newly created position will provide support to two areas of AIDR activities:
  • knowledge management (content) for the Knowledge Hub (website)
  • research and synthesize event content, and support the development of the program through conceptualising events
The successful candidate will report to the Director Community Safety & Resilience and the Director Research & Utilisation, and will play an important role in supporting and coordinating AIDR’s activities and the outcomes of the AIDR Directors.
This is a hands-on role, working in a small team. The position requires an individual with the confidence and experience to undertake their work with limited supervision and guidance, and who demonstrates a high level of commitment to meeting outcomes.
This is a full-time contract position based in Melbourne.
Key Result Areas:
Information management
  • Research, gather and synthesise information for the purpose of developing content for the Knowledge Hub website
  • Research, gather and synthesize information to develop high quality professional development events
  • Engage speakers and liaise on content for presentations
Project management
  • Manage projects including planning, co-ordination and execution
  • Manage and facilitate events and forums
  • Monitor project budgets
Stakeholder management
  • Liaise with stakeholders as required
  • Assist the Directors in managing reporting processes to internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain existing relationships and develop new relationships

Key Selection Criteria:
ESSENTIAL
  • Tertiary qualified, ideallyin emergency/disaster management or related field with a minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of events or other knowledge management programs
  • Operate effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build trust and rapport with key stakeholders whilst actively managing expectations
  • Demonstrated competency in Microsoft office software and website content management systems
