BRAXTON COUNTY
BOARD OF EDUCATION
July 30, 2014
The Braxton County Board of Education met in a regular
sessionat the Braxton County Board of Education office, Sutton
West Virginia on Tuesday, July 30, 2014 at 6 p.m. The following
members were present:
Kathy Parker, President
Dave Hoover, Vice President
Van Carr
Mike Chapman
Jimmy Huffman
The meeting was called to order by President Kathy Parker
at 6:00 p.m.
Kathy Parker offered a non-denominational prayer.
Mike Chapman moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve theconsent agenda items (minutes of meeting on July 22, 2014, payment of bills, budget transfers and supplements, permission to attend Nicholas County Schools from Braxton County Schools, permission to attend Gilmer County Schools from Braxton County Schools.)Vote: Unanimous.
Mike Chapman moved and Van Carrseconded toapprove the
following Employment/Reassignments – Professional:
- Kelsey Metz – Pre-School Special Needs/Head Start Home-Base Teacher (Itinerant) Burnsville Elementary effective August 4, 2014
- Mary Given – Math Teacher BCHS effective upon board appointment
- Jennifer Arambula – 5th Grade Teacher Flatwoods Elementary effective August 4, 2014
Vote: Unanimous
Dave Hoover moved and Jimmy Huffman moved to change the
effective date for Mary Given’s employment to August 4, 2014.
Vote: Unanimous
Dave Hoover moved and Mike Chapman seconded to approve the
following requests to have names added to the substitute teacher
list effective the beginning of the 2014-15 school year:
- Margaret Squires
- Brenda Gibson
Vote: Unanimous
Mike Chapman moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the
following resignations – Professional:
- Linda Brady -Kindergarten Teacher Flatwoods Elementary effective August 1, 2014
- Lisa Ellis – GED Options Teacher BCHS effective retroactive July 29, 2014
Vote: Unanimous
Dave Hoover moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the
following rescission of RIF – Professional:
- Jill Hoherz – Physical Education Teacher Frametown Elementary
Vote: Unanimous
Dave Hoover moved and Mike Chapman seconded to approve the
second reading/on comment Policy 2600 – Transportation Young
Riders/Parent Pick Up.
Vote: Unanimous
Mike Chapman moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the
Braxton County Head Start/Pre-K Continuous Quality Improvement
Plan for 2014-15.
Vote: Unanimous
Dave Hoover moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve the
Braxton County Head Start Training Plan for 2014-15.
Vote: Unanimous
Dave Hoover moved and Mike Chapman seconded to convene into executive session under 6-9A-4 (2)(A) at 6:27 p.m. for Executive Legal and student matters. Vote: Unanimous
Jimmy Huffman moved and Mike Chapman seconded to reconvene into regular session. Vote: Unanimous
The board reconvened into regular session at 7:15 p.m. with no action taken.
David Dilly reported on the Principal’s Academy and Senate
Bill 2940. It was announced that there will be a special board
meeting at the Bridgeport Conference Center on August
20, 2014 to meet with members and superintendents of other
county boards of educations to identify administrative,
coordinating and other county level services and functions that
may be shared between or among the county boards, especially
when resignations, retirements, staffing realignments or similar
events may occur, all as required by the provisions of West
Virginia Code §18-2-26a enacted by the Legislature at its 2013
regular session.
Dave Hoover and Van Carr seconded to adjourn.
Vote: Unanimous
The meeting adjourned at 7:19 p.m. The next regular
meeting of the Braxton County Board of Education will be on
Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. at the Braxton County
Board of Education office, Sutton, WV.
