Boys U-15 Soccer
The boys U-15 soccer team began their busy week of fixtures with a hard fought 2-2 draw away to Colaiste Choilm in Swords on Monday.
The team started well but found themselves one nil down early on after a set piece caused havoc in the PCS penalty area. The ball flicked off the head of the unsuspecting Kevin Healy and past the unlucky Steven James in goal. Young Healy made amends less than a minute later when he curled in a superb 40 yard free kick. The ball arced in with such precision that the keeper stood helpless as it flew in the top corner and left the Swords boys shell shocked. PCS pressed hard for the rest of the half but found themselves 2-1 down when a lucky ricochet left a Swords forward all on his own to stroke the ball in to the far corner. Darragh Keating (despite his lack of training!) and Darren Daly worked tirelessly with the latter unlucky when his shot beat the keeper but not the far post. Swords threatened again but were foiled by Steven James in goal when faced one on one. The big man got down well to block with his feet and made several saves to keep PCS in the game. Mr.Curran urged his team to stick at it in the second half and try to be more efficient in front of goal. The back four stuck to their task with a notable performance from Sean Cooney who put in some strong tackles and made a couple of bursting forward runs. The indefatigable Daly up front linked well with Craig Giles and Healy in midfield, the two wingers Conor Ryan and Stephen Mooney/ Keene Honer as well as strike partner Keating. Ciaran Daly then had a dipping volley crash down on to the bar but would not have to wait too long for his next opportunity. Several chances were created but despite the efforts of PCS' attacking players it was centre back Daly who found himself alone in the box after a mishit corner found its way to his feet. The ball was calmly stroked into the net, sending Mr. Curran, the two waterboys, the substitutes and Cian Honer's mam into delerium! The last ten minutes were frantic with PCS dominating possession and creating lots of chances but still susceptible to counter attacks. However the back line led by Max Slobodkin held firm. Left back Josh Reilly grew into the game and linked well with Conor Ryan to create more chances. One such chance fell to substitute Rory Walsh. The big striker saw this effort come off the inside of the post and bounce along the line before being hacked to safety. Walsh fit in well to the PCS set up by dropping deep and running at the Swords defense and causing havoc with his physical presence. The win proved elusive but the PCS lads showed great character and determination, battling long and hard despite luck being against them. Two goals and a point each was the final outcome. Best of luck to the team who play two home games this week, v St Paul's,Raheny on Wednesday (league) and v The Donahies on Friday (cup).
