Dear Educators and Partners,

With great pleasure, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, QueenswaySecondary School presents to you the 3rdAssembly of Youth for Environment (AYE2011).

The AYE2011 is organized by Queensway Secondary School (QSS) with its partners (National Parks Singapore, Blangah Rise Primary andNature Society Singapore). AYE2011 will be held in Singapore on 15th Nov 2011 at Fort Canning Green from 0800 to 1230 hrs.

The inauguralAYE (AYE2009) wasorganized on17thNov 2009. Nearly 300youth delegates from different levels of Singapore schools participated. This acted as a platform for a major forum and new collaboration among schools, from relevant areas of environmental science and technology, emerged. The second AYE (AYE2010) was organised on 16thNov 2010. This second forum elicited spirited participation from teachers and students from primary, secondary and tertiary institutes in the area of clean energy.

This year’s keynote speaker is Dr Shawn Lum (President of Nature Society Singapore). The year 2011 is the"International Year of Forests" and coincides with QueenswaySecondary School’s 50th year Anniversary. As such, AYE 2011 represents a chance for Queensway to create an international forum with participation from our partner schools in Indonesia and Hongkong. It will be a platform for each and every one of us to think now, what we can do to minimize forest destruction in the world.

This invitation is intended to prepare you and your studentsin attending the AYE 2011. As AYE is a forum meant for Youths to take action for the environment around them, our youths will be involved in the following activities:

  1. Presentation of Environmental Research by Singapore and overseas schools
  2. Terrarium Construction
  3. Extension of the Butterfly Trail at FortCanning
  4. Maintenance of FortCanning plants

Educators are also invited to a presentation by MCOnline on the use of Iphone as a Self Directed Learning and Collaborative Tool in fieldwork. Educators will get a chance to experiment with trails creation and data gathering apps in IPhones.
