The Blue and White: Yearbook Workshop

Course Overview

Welcome to Yearbook Workshop, the class in which you will be producing the 2011 Blue and White, the official yearbook of Medford High School. If you are enrolled in this class, it means you were selected by me and the editors-in-chief because you are qualified, driven, and talented. In this course, you have the opportunity to work with all elements of yearbook production – book sales, advertising, marketing, photography, journalism, graphical content, andlayout and design. I look forward to continuing the great tradition of Medford High School yearbook with all of you!

The official course website is We produce the yearbook on this site, using internet-based software. In order to access the site, enter the following: our job number (4343), year of publication (2011), and the username and password you have been assigned.

Editors-in-Chief

This year’s very qualified co-editors-in-chief are seniors Katie O’Brien and Ivana Garcia. Katie and Ivana will be running out meetings, making page assignments, and monitoring our book’s progress.

Attendance Policy

The class policy on cutting class is in accordance with the stated policy in the student handbook: one cut class results in five points deducted from your quarter grade; two cut classes result in ten points deducted from your quarter grade; three cut classes result in failure for the quarter. In accordance with the stated policy in the student handbook, twelve or greater absences will result in failure for the academic year.

Grading Policy

At the start of each quarter, I will assign tasks that must be completed by the end of the quarter. In order to earn an “A” for the first quarter, you must complete the following assignments:

  • Identify 5 examples of interesting graphic design in print media or on the web.
  • Independently or with a partner, design and layout 4 pages using our publishing program.
  • Contact 15 local businesses (in person or via telephone) about purchasing an advertisement.
  • Volunteer at 1 school event (activity fair, open house night, parent-teacher conferences, etc.).

Other Requirements

Occasionally, we will have full staff meetings after school in my classroom, C114. Additionally, you will be required to correspond with me and the editors-in-chief regarding the progress of your assignments.
