EXAMPLE:Night of the Howling Dogs was one of the most exciting book battle books I have read. When Dylan lost his glasses during the earthquake, I could totally relate. If you want a book you cannot put down, then read this one.

You will be responding to Mrs. H’s post asking, did you enjoy this book. If you didn’t that is okay. The important thing is to post why or why you did not like something in the book. Ideas to post about might include favorite characters, did the plot keep you interested or did you relate to something in the book. Please don’t give away any plot twist or any personal information.

I give my student permission to post a comment about this book or any book battle book. My student has also read the blogging rules [other side].

LeeCounty Book Trailers:
This blog was created so students could comment online about the 2009 - 2010 Sunshine State Young Readers Award books, Grades 3-5, also known as the LeeCounty Book Battle Books. Using 21st Century Information Skills , students will participate via social media in a kid- safe environment. Students will blog from a teacher monitored classroom computer. Only students and teachers at our school will be allowed on the blog. And the entire discussion site will be managed daily by Mrs. Harclerode, DiplomatElementary School's media specialist.
The Blog Rules

B = Be Brief. Think about what you want to say and check your spelling as well as your grammar.
L= Log on correctly. Do not use your full name, only your initials. You do not want to share personal information. However do use your teacher's name, your grade and school.

O= Opinion. This is your opinion about this book. However make sure your comments are appropriate. Ask yourself is this post inappropriate, or immature in any way.
G = Global. Anyone in the world might be reading your post. You are representing yourself, your class, your school and your country. This is both exciting and an awesome responsibility.

Here is how you get started:
  1. Every time you read a Book Battle Book and have passed the AR test at 85%, you may ask your teacher to join the Book Battle Blog.
  2. You will be given a Book Battle Form. –Read it, review the blogging rules and pre- write what you plan to discuss. The completed form must be signed by your parent / guardian.
  3. Then you may go to a school computer that has been set up for blogging. And now it is as easy as ABC.

A. Go to the home page and select the book you want to blog about. Just click on the cover.
B. From that book's page then click on the grey discussion tab at the top of the page.
C. From the discussion page choose the title of the book underneath the grey subject tab.

Now you may begin blogging.

  • You will be typing a reply to a topic Mrs. H has already started.
  • Remember the blogging rules.
  • And end your post with your initials only, your teacher's name, grade and school.
  • If your post is thoughtful and interesting, Mrs. H may respond back to you herself.
