ASSISTANT MANAGER

The premier tennis and swim club on Chicago's North Shore, The Birchwood Club offers an incomparable array of athletic and social activities for the entire family - toddlers to seniors.

The Birchwood Club, established in 1958, is a private club located in the city of Highland Park, 20 miles north of Chicago's Loop. The Club is situated on 12 acres, just east of the Eden's Expressway (US Route 41), set back off of Park Avenue West. In the summer the views from the beautifully decorated, comfortable clubhouse overlook the pool and the grounds ablaze with thousands of flowers and are enhanced by the surrounding woods. The winter season features a paddle program. All seasons are enhanced by fine dining and banquet facilities.

The Club has 12 Har-Tru (soft) and four Deco-Turf (hard) courts and 4 paddle courts, swimming pool and complete locker rooms for both men and women.

Dining at The Birchwood Club is truly a memorable experience. Executive Michael Goodwick and his accomplished staff create meals comparable to the finest restaurants across the country.The Main Dining Room at The Birchwood Club can seat 140individualswith two adjacent dining rooms seating 30 and 50 guests respectively. During the summer months, the glass walls afford a view of the Club's lovely grounds. There is also a Club Room for casual food and dining.

The assistant manager will be directly involved in all aspects of food and beverage operations and the event planning at the club. The assistant manager will oversee day-to-day food and beverage operations includingthe wine program. They will be responsible for training staffand assuring that they provide quality service. The assistant manager will be professional and highly visible with the Club's membership and play an active role in the dining rooms and banquet areas. The assistant manager is required to ensure that all department financial obligations are met and review all expenses with the management team as required.

The ideal applicant should be well experienced in club management and is working towards their Certified Club Manager Designation. The candidate should be organized and display good communication skills. The Assistant Manager reports directly to the General Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.Supervising banquet service, dining room service and functions throughout the club for all member events, private partiesand meetings.

2. Assists in catering and event planning.

3. Maintains the highest standard of food and beverage service, and is creative in room set-ups and presentations.

4. Responsiblefor daily interactions with all departments: food and beverage, housekeeping, locker rooms and engineering.

5.Carry out administrative functions, processstaff informationand eventBEO’s. Checks BEO’s and reservation book daily against set up and employee schedules. Responsible for scheduling front of house employees.

6. Maintains contact with membership and is directly responsiblefor having staff provide service levels that achievemaximum member satisfaction.

7. Supervises employee efficiency and establishes control and instituteschanges in operations as needed.

8. Works with Chef on menus and party coordination efficiency.Coordinates party set-up, buffet decorations, table settings and bar set- up for events.

9. Responsible for beverage and supply invoices for processing and taking and posting beverage inventories. Create seasonal specialty drinks.

10. Follows procedure in wine service and encourages wine sales

11. Handles complaints of members and guests and reports to General Manager so that issues can be resolved to maintain member satisfaction and reduce the chance for a re-occurrence.

12.Assists in other duties and projects as directed by theGeneral Manager
