Rules and Regulations for

Accepted Participants

1. All entries in the Parade must first be accepted by the selection Committee through the application process. The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo reserves the right to accept or refuse any application or accepted participant.

2. Application does not guarantee participation in the 2017 parade. Previous participation does not guarantee entry in the 2017parade.

3. The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo Canada Day Parade has the right to limit the number and size of entries per company or organization.

4. Participants must be in position by 9:30 am on Saturday July 1. Participants must be ready to depart the Marshalling area at 10:30 am.

5. All entries must comply with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act. For more information,please visit:

6. The total dimensions of the float, including towing vehicle, cannot exceed the following measurements: 8.5’ width, 60’ length (40’ max. for flatbed and 20’ max. for vehicle), 13.6’ height.

7. Two Safety people are required to walk on either side of each float, except in the case of safety professional entries (i.e. police, firefighters, and EHS).

8. Standing on floats or moving vehicles is not permitted without safety harnesses or handholds.

9. All electrical devices must meet safety standards and electrical output must not exceed the maximum amperage of the generator.

10. Participants must not get on or off moving vehicles or floats.

11. The use of fire, gas or propane lights is not permitted.

12.Alcoholic beverages are strictly forbidden.

13. Floats are required to have skirting around the bottom, covering the wheels, for aesthetics.

14. Solicitation on the Parade route and Marshalling Area is not permitted.

15. All children must be supervised by an adult.

16. All floats are required to have recorded or live (amplified) music which is to be played at a minimum number of decibels.

17. A certificate of insurance for all groups must be received no later than June 20, 2017. Each group must show proof of at least $2 million in liability insurance. Groups without certificate of insurance will not be permitted in the Parade.

18. Floats and walking groups should provide entertainment value suitable for a family audience and should not be purely promotional. Promotional vehicles are not allowed unless towing a float.

19. All participants should be able to travel from the beginning of the parade route to the end without a support vehicle.

20. If the above rules and regulations are not met, the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo staff has the right to refuse participation.

Entry Fee

The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo parade has a nominal fee for corporate entries to offset the rising costs of presenting a safe, quality event. Sponsors of the NS Tattoo are given free participation in the Parade. For non-profit organizations with more than one corporate partner, a $200 fee is required for any additional corporate partner.

On approval of corporate applications, payments are due by Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Please make all cheques payable to Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo Society.

When planning and designing entries, please keep in mind that the purpose of the Parade is to provide entertainment for members of the community, particularly children.

The distribution of candy and/or promotional material is strictly prohibited. The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo reserves the rights to approve or deny entry to the Parade. Past participation does not guarantee participation in 2017.

Please retain a copy of the Parade Application Package for reference on the day of the Parade. Confirmation will be forwarded after the Selection Committee has made its final decisions

On behalf of the above-mentioned organization, I hereby waive and refuse any and all rights and claims for damages against the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, and/or sponsors, its agents, officers, or members. I also agree to abide by all rules and regulations as outlined by the Committee and understand that this information is being obtained for the purpose of application. I also understand that my image and the image of all Parade participants may be used for promotional purposes by the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
