3-7 August 2015

APPLICATION FORM

The BES London Summer School in Greek and Latin Epigraphy will take place in London from 3 to 7 August 2015. The School is open to UG and PG students, as well as postdoctoral scholars with an interest in classical epigraphy. Participants willgain practical first-hand experience with inscribed stones and other inscribed objects. They will also be given instruction in editorial practice and bibliographic skills. They will learn how to produce editions of inscriptions, including how to make squeezes and how to take photographs of inscriptions. In particular, and in collaboration with the British Museum, participants will gain hands-on experience with Greek and Latin inscriptions that are part of the BM’s collection. In addition to the hands-on training, there will be a number of lectures and training sessions led by distinguished epigraphists who will introduce the participants to a variety of important aspects of epigraphy, including the history of the discipline, major current epigraphic projects, the use of epigraphic databases and corpora, and, more generally, the use of epigraphic evidence to illuminate a variety of historical and thematic subjects.
