The Berenice A. Carroll Feminism, Peace, and Social Justice Awards
Application Guidelines
Awardswill be made to outstanding graduate and undergraduate applicants. Applications must be received by March 16th, 2015. Recipients will be notified by emailand receive their awards at a conferral ceremony onTBD (late March/early April)
Applicants should submit the following items:
- Completed Application Form (Form appears as page 3 of this document. This should be used as the cover sheet for your full application.)
- Essay, creative work, or project report to be considered.
Length of essays or project reports: Please note projects submitted should be short enough to read or view in less than an hour, not more than 7500 words for written submissions.
Examples of creative works: a collection of poetry, one or more short stories, a painting, drawing or sculpture, a movie, a blog (collection of posts), or a video of an originally composed dance or music performance.
Information to be included in project reports: Detail any engagement in the community, such as a service learning project or an activist project. Describe the actions you took or that were taken by the group (if appropriate), the purposes of the group or activity, or the like.
- Supporting materials, such as a bibliography, a statement of sources and methods, data, interview records, graphic or digital materials, flyers, clippings, or other appropriate documentation.
- One page resumé. Be sure to detail any activism, extra-curricular activities, or scholarly achievements related to the purposes of the award.

Project Framing Statement(300 words or less). Be sure to review the accompanying document outlining the founding principles of the Berenice A. Carroll Awards. In 300 words or less indicate how your submission contributes to an understanding of peace studies, and/or social justice issues and/or feminism. For creative works be sure to make explicit the rationale behind the design of your work. (Please do type up on a separate page)
Project/Paper Abstract (200 words or less). Briefly describe your paper/project.(Please do type up on a separate page)
Contact information for three referees (list position, email address, and phone number), preferably including at least one referee who is well-acquainted with the project or paper you are submitting. List that person first and indicate the context in which you know her or him. You do not need to request letters of recommendation; the screening committee will contact referees as needed.
