There is The Medal, a nice certificate, a booklet and a history of the SS Beaver that makes up the presentation.
This is a description taken from the booklet that is given with the medal.
The Beaver Medal was struck from copper fittings taken from the SS Beaver, and represents the contribution to history which the SS Beaver made in the early days of the province of British Columbia.
Within the pages of this small booklet contains the names of the recipients of the M.M.C.S. Beaver Medal, who have been selected, not for bravery in battle or heroic efforts on the battle front, but for the contribution they have and continue to make to the country and community in which they live and serve.
They were recognized for their personal leadership, sharing their personal talent, providing enjoyment to others, research for better living conditions. Above all else, being the silent role model for all to follow.
Those, who would say, "That is a medal of no value." fail to recognize the full value of the community service which the person wearing the Beaver Medal, has or is providing.
The medal is to be worn next to the right lapel (all) other medals will be worn to the right of the Beaver Medal.
It is encouraged that the medal be "past on" to a family member as a symbol of the recipients courage and dedication to their community. This will also honor the officers and men of the SS Beaver, who helped pioneer and build the province of British Columbia.
Wear it proudly and keep up your good work.
Reverend L.R. Dick Fletcher.
The striking of the medal was a project of the Canadian Confederation Centennial Committee of British Columbia and the first was awarded to Robert S. Maxwell on January 1st 1963.
The booklet contains all the names of all recipients of the medal, the first few are mostly Captains and above. There have been eight or ten most years since then.It is a pretty impressive list of dignitaries including Admirals and RCNA members.
The KelownaBC RCNA Club was asked to pass on a couple medals to the East Coast and this was done by the Area Vice President from BC at the AGM in Kitchener-Waterloo
They were awarded to Shipmates Gerald “Jerry” Sigrist andRichard “Doc” Halliday.
Their names will be added to the book as 2007 recipients.
