LIST OF SUBJECTS

The Bead and Wire Jewellery Designer’s Bible by Renata Graham

Every beader knows the seductive pleasures of the bead store. And once you've got your purchases home: what then? How do you put it all together to create a beautiful piece? What shapes fit? Will crystal go with wood? Can you set luster against luster, or will luster against matte work better? How many spacers between statement beads? Should you go symmetrical? Does red go with green? Malachite with metallic?

And what about the rhythm of the piece? Will it sit still or shift and shimmer? Will it shout or whisper? Do you want glam or boho? Drama or harmony? Big clasp or small clasp? And what the heck is negative space?

This book answers all of these questions, and a whole load of others that bead jewellery designers are likely to encounter. It is the must-have guide to the key design principles for beautiful bead jewellery. And what’s more, the book lets you test all this out with 20 wonderful projects.

The sections of the book that we would like to illustrate with your pieces are the design and beads sections, within those sections, the subjects covered are:

• Colour theory and colour schemes

• Bead shape

• Bead texture and finishes

• Chain and wire

• Spacers and metal components

• Fastenings (on a jewellery piece)

• Accents, patterns and repeats: symmetrical designs; asymmetrical designs; random designs; repeating designs; focal beads

• Hair: headbands; fascinators; tiaras

• Earrings (pierced and clip on): studs; drops; dangling; hoops; chandeliers

• Neck (necklaces lengths): collar; choker; princess; matinee; opera; rope; lariat

• Arms: bracelets and bangles

• Hands: rings

• Body: brooch

• Legs and feet: anklets and toe rings

• Non-jewellery beaded and wired objects: wine glass charms; beaded bookmarks; wire-beaded decorations; beaded eyeglass holder chain
