The battle of Hastings

Once upon a time in medieval times a young knight called sir Hadleigh of Carlton was asked to fight for king Harold at the battle of Hastings.

So he told his servant to pack some food and mead for him and water for his horse then he asked his servant to polish his armour ready for the battle. Then he set off for his journey.

On the way he met some outlaws who tried to rob him but he got his sword out and and charged at them and sir Hadleigh had them stabbed in no time unfortunately one of the outlaws shot his servant with a bow and arrow and he died of his injuries leaving sir Hadleigh alone.

That night he stopped at an inn, who gave him food, ale, a bed for the night and a stable and hay for his horse. This cost him one gold coin.

Next morning he asked the landlord if he knew anyone who could be his new servant as his last one got murdered. As you can imagine there wasn’t many volunteers as being murdered was not on top of anyone’s wish list.

Then one man came forward and said he would do it for five gold coins.

Sir Hadleigh had no choice and agreed to pay five gold coins. So sir Hadleigh and his new servant set off for Hastings. It was nightfall when they got to Hastings and when they saw king Harold, he told them that the servant will have to be separated from sir Hadleigh because he liked his men to fight alone. All the servants stayed at a local farm.

At the battle sir Hadleigh thought that his side was going to win and then Harold’s army made the mistake of chasing the normans who they thought were running away but the norman cavalry turned round and cut the saxon army to ribbons.

While this was happening king Harold was killed when an arrow hit him in the eye. Sir Hadleigh`s horse was also killed by an arrow and he was injured when falling from the horse as it died. He managed to get back to where he left his servant but the servant had took all his belongings and disappeared. So sir Hadleigh borrowed a horse from a fellow knight and returned to Carlton a very sad man.
