Our school is a successful and diverse 11-16 comprehensive with 900 pupils, with a strong record of achievement leading in recent years to a curriculum award and most improved Specialist School. In addition, the school building has recently benefitted from an investment of £11.2 million creating a new high-specification science block, lecture theatre, sports hall, ICT suites, astro-turf pitch and reception area. The English, Maths, Art and Design Technology departments were all remodeled, creating an environment that is both purposeful and inspiring.

You will be located in Didsbury, (often voted as one of the most popular places to live in Manchester) only a short walk from the vibrant shops, bars and restaurants of Didsbury village. You will also have access to excellent transport links to Manchester city centre and surrounding areas.

As the SENCO you will have responsibility for leading, developing and managing a high standard of provision for learners with SEN, ensuring that the standards of attainment and achievement are high and SEN students make accelerated and sustained progress. This will include developing and implementing strategies to ensure that all students including those with special educational needs, medical needs, difficulties or disabilities or those who are linguistically diverse have access to the full range of curriculum provision and educational resources. In addition, you will be responsible for leading a team of support staff, managing and maintaining the school’s SEN register and ensuring that the legal and statutory requirements are met for students with SEN. You will also contribute to in-service training for teachers and support staff and monitor and evaluate SEN provision and ensure strategies are adopted to ensure high quality teaching and learning.

You should:

·  Be an outstanding classroom practitioner and experience of teaching English would be an advantage

·  Have a “Good” or better teaching record

·  Have strong experience working with children with Special Education Needs in a secondary setting

·  Have a good working knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice

·  Hold or be prepared to study for the National SENCO Award

·  Have leadership or management experience

·  Have the ability to support staff in regularly monitoring and evaluating individual student progress.

·  Have the skills and ability to improve the quality of the SEN provision in the school
