The Service Delivery team is usually the first point of contact between taxpayers and the Tax Office and plays a vital role in shaping our clients’ views of our operations.

Service Delivery plays a critical role in administering Australia’s taxation and superannuation systems, underpinned by maintaining the integrity of the client register and account.

We provide taxpayers with tools and systems to understand and meet their obligations as easily as possible and deliver a positive client experience, ensuring our services and interactions are professional, contemporary and tailored to take into account individual client circumstances.

The position

An APS6 Project Officer is accountable under limited direction to deliver results to support project outcomes in accordance with work area, team and project requirements. They are accountable to undertake a range of complex project work with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability. They will have an extensive understanding of the requirements of the position, as well as the legislative, regulatory and compliance frameworks that underpin its activities.

The APS6 Project Officer may provide specialised advice on project management matters and the resolution of complex problems and assist in strategic planning, program and project management and/or policy development. They may liaise with a variety of stakeholders in order to progress and achieve project outcomes.

The APS6 Project Officer may lead a team and is expected to be capable of reviewing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work group. They will have an in-depth knowledge of the role and functions of the agency and an understanding of how these relate to project outcomes. They are accountable for organising their own workflow, and for making decisions in relation to their work area and team plans to support project and team outcomes.

What you will do

·  Be accountable for managing allocated project resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating project outcomes

·  Be accountable for accurate completion of project work within timeframes and quality requirements; provide advice and technical expertise in areas of project activities; share own expertise with others and guide and mentor less experienced employees

·  Prepare briefs, project and work plans detailing measurable milestones and outcomes; monitor project and work progress and manage priorities

·  Maintain knowledge and keep others informed of the strategic objectives and broader impacts and implications of project activities

·  Analyse, interpret and apply established technical, operational, professional and administrative procedures, practices and project management methodologies

·  Engage with stakeholders on complex and/or sensitive issues in order to provide or obtain information or to influence them to recognise a particular situation

·  Work collaboratively, consult and share information with own team and seek input from others to achieve business outcomes

·  Modify activities and processes affecting how work is performed, in compliance with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks

·  Address issues in the work environment, devise action plans and advance new approaches

·  Frequently resolve problems using knowledge and experience, identify and develop ideas and analyse alternative courses of action and their implications

·  Be actively involved in influencing and convincing others in the pursuit or achievement of project objectives. Research and analyse business processes and new concepts to identify and capitalise on opportunities for improvement

Position requirements

·  Demonstrated ability to undertake or lead a variety of business projects

·  Proficiency in project methodologies for project design and analysis

·  Solid understanding of research methodology, data analysis and interpretation.

·  Highly developed stakeholder engagement and consultation skills to establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels across the business

·  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, lead teams, empower others and manage resources effectively to ensure achievement of project objectives

·  Highly developed verbal and written communication skills to engage, influence and present to a broad audience

·  Expertise in the Microsoft suite of products and web based applications
