  • “Believing is half of being.”
  • Main Point – Believing in Christ isbeing! Through the Holy Spirit we can be all He wants us to be.

OT SCRIPTURE

Old Testament Women

Eve– Genesis 2:25 – 3:7

  • Eve’s focus was misplaced.
  • She had many, many choices, but chose the wrong thing!
  • God’s covering (Spiritual) vs. Adam and Eve’s (just physical)

Rebekah– Genesis 24:12 – 19, 21

  • God is in the details.
  • Work on your character and be ready!
  • You do not have to try to flaunt your beauty… your inner beauty will shine through!

Esther– Chapter 2:12, 15

  • What do you know about Esther?
  • Her preparation was both internal and external.
  • “A girl who lacks inwardly may over compensate on the outside.”

Virtuous Woman– Proverbs 31:10-31

  • 21 verses address the woman’s skill and character.
  • 1 verse addresses her outward appearance.
  • Set proper priorities (God 1st, Others 3nd and I’m third!)

Jezebel – 2 Kings 9:30-31

  • Her name means “an impudent, shameless, or morally unrestrained woman; unchaste, carnal; not exalted.”
  • She put externals above character.

ACTIVITY 1

First Thoughts regarding ladies attire:

  • Write a word or phrase and post sticky note
  • Did anyone write “black shoes” or “blue shirt”?
  • Main Point: Those around us, both Christians and non-Christians, are looking at us and making deep assessments of us based on what we present to them

NT SCRIPTURE

-Both Timothy & Peter both addressed ladies attire withinthe early church

-Women were “looking like the world” in the church

I Timothy 2:9-10

  • Written by Paul to Timothy, the overseer at the church new believers in Ephesus.
  • Greek word “katastole” - only time used in the Bible.
  • “kata” (down) and “stello” (to send)
  • Women’s garment should be “sent down” to cover her appropriately.
  • What do we adorn ourselves with? (Good Works)

1 Peter 3:3-4

  • Written to the suffering church dispersed in Asia Minor to remind them that they will suffering as Christ suffered.
  • Emphasison being holy, or set apart for God’s purposes.
  • What do we adorn ourselves with? (Quality of the heart, gentle and quiet spirit)

PRINCETON STUDY RESULTS

Study says that men’s brains are affected by the amount of clothing women wear:

  • Less clothing – Men treat as an object to use/ control
  • More modest dress – Men treat as a person to relate to

Where Should They Be?

  • Take pictures and tape and place the pictures in the right location
  • Is anyone inappropriate for their Occupation, location or occasion?
  • Main Point: Modesty is:
  • Being free from vanity or conceit
  • Doing something in a manner that is appropriate
  • Not just about “covering up,”but deals with the entire presentation
  • Occupation
  • Location
  • Occasion

Little Decisions, Big Consequences

Little decisions determine a habit.

Habits mold character.

Character makes the big decisions.

Motives

  • A motive is something that induces a person to act in a particular way.
  • Be motivated by God!!
  • God will help true believers be pleasing to Him!
