MINUTES OF THE MEETING

FOR 24 JULY 2012

DATE: 28 AUGUST 2012

OPENING – The meeting was called to order at the Raymond Freeman Post 942 by Commander Alfred J. Smallwood at 1905 Hours. Opening prayer was offered by Chaplain George Malveaux followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion.

MINUTES – The Minutes for 26 June 2012 were distributed to all Members present. The Minutes were read by Adjutant Lionel Villafranco. Commander Alfred Smallwood so moved to accept The Minutes as read and seconded by Vice Commander Alex Garcia. Motion passed.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBER

New guest was introduced by Commander Alfred Smallwood. Mr. Robert Robinson introduced himself as former Pastor and Missionary Preacher, professional musician, and an AIRFORCE Vietnam Veteran.

FINANCE REPORT

POST 0942 FINANCIAL REPORT – Finance Officer, Gloria Smallwood reports starting checking balance is $543.22. After bank deposits and expenditures were identified, the balance is $37.54. House Chair Alex Garcia turned over to the Finance Officer $75.00.00 profit from sales. The new checking balance is $112.54 Adjutant Lionel Villafranco moved that we accept the Financial Report as reported by Finance Officer Gloria Smallwood. Chaplain George Malveaux seconded. Motion passed.

COMMITTEE REPORT

House Financial Report – House Chair, Alex Garcia reports starting balance of $394.00. After expenditures and disbursements were identified, the balance is $481.00. The House turns over $75.00 to the checking account maintaining $406.00 for Post Operations. Finance Officer Gloria Smallwood moved to accept the House Chair report, seconded by Commander Alfred Smallwood.

On 7-11-12 a transfer of $900.00 was made to pay the 2 year Beer License renewal. The new balance of the savings account is $3089.50. No deposit was made to date in July.

OFFICER’S REPORT

Commander’s Report – Commander Alfred Smallwood reports on the Ninety Fourth Annual Convention of The American Legion, Department of Texas held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Houston. Attending the Convention were Commander Alfred Smallwood, Finance Officer Gloria Smallwood, and Adjutant Lionel Villafranco. The report on elected Depart Officers was as follows:

§  Dan Corbin, Department Commander.

§  Lynn Sparks, Vice Commander

§  Bryan Coleman, Judge Advocate

Commander Smallwood also briefed us on Son’s of the American Legion and Boy’s State.

Vice Commander’s Report – Vice Commander Alex Garcia reports on future contact with the Sugar land Farmers market to recruit for Post Members.

Adjutant’s Report – Adjutant reports on membership status end of year 2012 percentages.

Finance Officer – Gloria Smallwood reported on The Department Legislative Committee. She briefed us on:

§  Deficit Reduction Law

§  V.A Home Loans

§  Veterans losing homes

§  Senate taking action on much needed pieces of Legislation in Washington.

§  Flag Amendment about Flag burning

§  DOD local level budget

§  V.A. budget at 10.5% increase this year.

Service Officer – absent - no report

Sgt-At-Arms – absent - no report

Hub Master Report – Report made by Adjutant Lionel Villafranco.

Chaplain – no report.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Adjutant Lionel Villafranco reports on arrangements being made with District 9 S.A.L. Commander for establishing the S.A.L. Squadron 0942.

Finance Officer Gloria Smallwood reports on a new date for an AD HOC Committee set for 2 August 2012 at 11:00 at Post 0942 for the purpose of discussing a new Post 0942 Rental Contract.

Pending Post citations for Post 0942 were resolved at no charges for the Post per Commander Alfred Smallwood and Vice Commander Alex Garcia.

NEW BUSINESS

Adjutant Lionel Villafranco announced a discussion about Post 0942 building and grounds insurance. The American Legion has a Home Post Insurance at a cheap rate for those that wish to take advantage of the insurance program. We are subject to law suits. This subject is tabled for a future discussion.
