Welcome to the American Corner LECIAD.The American Corner and the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD) are together bringing the United States of America a step closer to the public, creating awareness among the university students and staff and the general public through the establishment of the AMERICAN CORNER. The American Corner (AC) LECIAD is an extension of the US Embassy Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Accra. The aim of the American Corner is to provide a much more open environment for the Ghanaian public to access information on the United States, highlighting important issues in the United States as related to the development of the people and their country and the world at large. It also aims at strengthening the capacity of users on national and international issues in order to equip them with relevant information.

We offer to the Ghanaian Public free of charge Information resources whichinclude internet access. Come and use our books, databases, do research projects, and learn about American democracy and society at the American Corner LECIAD located at the University of Ghana,Legon Campus, with in the Legon centre for international Affairs and Diplomacy Building(LECIAD). The American Corner is the best place at Legon to learn about America.

Working Hours

Monday through Friday:

Morning: 08:00am to 12:30pm

Afternoon: 02:00pm to 04:30pm

The AC is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and on Ghanaian holidays.

AC SERVICES

  • INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY:

To promote resources, products and services, the AC regularly organizes Information Technology programs designed for target audience: decision makers, opinion leaders and high-level government officials.

  • Book Discussions, General Discussions,
  • Workshops/Conferences,
  • Debates and choosing a book of the Year.

On regular basis, the AC organizes discussions, workshops/conferences and Colloquia on different topics such as

Democracy,Human Rights, Environment, Conflict Resolution, Religion, HIV/AIDS and other interesting and pressing issues. You are welcome to register as a participant for programs that meet your interest.

GENERAL COLLECTIONS:

The AC’s Collection covers various subject areas such as US Foreign Policy, Economy, Literature, Management, Law, Commerce, Geography, History, Art and others.

MAGAZINES AND PERIODICALS:

The AC makes available 30 magazines and specialized periodicals dealing with Foreign Policy, Economy, Literature, and Management, both for in-house and the AC user’s consultations.

INTERNET ACCESS.

The Corner has five Computers with Internet access to enable users’ research online for additional information.It is also a good platform for those interested in taking part in Web chat sessions online.
