Fantastic Friday

October 9, 2015

Happy Friday!

We are truly fortunate to live in Meridian and work at Meridian I.S.D. This week has reminded all of us that many positives can be found when one faces adversity. Even though this week we have faced adversity we have turned our challenges into positive learning opportunities. Even though our high school office received a threatening phone call our wonderful staff responded in a very appropriate and professional manner. Law enforcement did an outstanding job of responding and worked with our staff in order to protect our kids. I think that it was fantastic that many positive scenarios were worked through with law enforcement and our staff. Our great law enforcement officials became more familiar with our buildings and there lay out. We will continue to refine our planning so that any future incidents can be dealt with in an even more effective manner. I want to thank everyone for their smooth and professional response to the lock down this week.

The week held many other positive notes for our students such as the MVF Department coming to our elementary campus and showing our students the fire trucks. One great thing that happened this week was that our students learned about fire safety while making their fire prevention posters during art class. Students were assigned the task of drawing up a fire escape plan for their house and sharing it with family members. This may save some lives in the future!

Spirit week along with homecoming went extremely well all week, even in the mist of our challenge on Thursday. Many teachers and students were dressed up as “nerds” and got into the spirit of this special week. The students that won the spirit contest for best dressed “nerd” really out did themselves that day!

Picture day on Wednesday saw many smiling faces at both campuses. On this once in a lifetime day our student’s dressed in their western wear and really looked sharp. These pictures will be used for the annual and will represent how these students are remembered during their high school years.

Our fantastic Student Health Advisory Council met on Monday after school in order to review the overall wellness plan at Meridian I.S.D. This plan helps our staff and students make choices about one of the most important items that we all face “Health Literacy”. This committee does a great job of promoting a life-long literacy skill which helps our students to make wiser health choices throughout their lifetime. This committee encourages our students to take care of their health and continue to learn about this crucial topic. This fantastic issue that they promote is literally a matter of life and death.

These are just a few of the positive things going on a Meridian I.S.D. I hope that you will continue to spread the good word about the successes that we experience here on a daily basis. Have a great week next week and GO YELLOWJACKETS!
