Road Closures and Diversions
Saturday 8thAugust and Sunday 9thAugust: Road Closures and Diversions
Closures Saturday 8thAugust 05:00 – Sunday 9thAugust 21:00
- All roads within the ExCeL exhibition centre will have restrictions / closures. Access will be forparking only (no through route).
- Tidal Basin Road up to and including the Lower Lea Crossing is closed.
- Royal Albert Way dual carriageway is closed in both directions between Gallions roundaboutand Connaught Bridge. There will be one lane open Westbound to allow for access to Newham Council Offices, The Regatta Centre and the Yi-Ban Restaurant. All traffic using this will be forced off the dual carriageway on to the Connaught Bridge Roundabout at the end of the road.
- Royal Albert Way will be reopened to traffic in one lane from the end of competition on Saturday (approx 2000hrs) until 0500hrs on Sunday 9th August.
Sunday 9th August: Road Closures and Diversions (these are in addition to the Saturday closures)
Closures 05:00 – 18:00
- Aspen Way, East India Dock tunnel and the Limehouse Link Tunnel are all closed in both directions.
- Upper Bank Street, South Colonnade, West India Avenue and The top part of Westferry Road roundabout will be closed.
All traffic should consider using A13 but please allow extra time as traffic is likely to be heavier in both directions.
Access to The Highway, St Katherine’s, Wapping & Shadwell:
Sunday 9th August05:00 – 18:00
Although East Smithfield and The Highway will remain open for the duration of all road closures, access will not be possible from Tower Hill. Please follow the diversion via Royal Mint Street and Dock Street to gain access
Access to Canary Wharf and Isle of Dogs:
Upper Bank Street, South Colonnade, West India Avenue and the top part of Westferry Road Roundabout will be closed. Access via Preston’s Road and Trafalgar Way will not be affected.
Diversions:
- A one-way system allowing access for small vehicles to North Colonnade will be in place via Westferry Road Roundabout. HGV’s will NOT be permitted to use this route.
Through traffic travelling South to North/North to South:
Sunday 9thAugust05:00 -18:00
North to south / south to north travel across Tower Bridge will not be impacted by the road closures.
Through traffic travelling East to West / West to East
Sunday 9th August 05:00 – 18:00
East India Dock Tunnel, Aspen Way andLimehouse Link Tunnel are all closed in both directions.
Diversions
- The A13 will provide the main diversion route for traffic travelling east or west in the area but the A11, A12, A200 and A206 are all open as alternatives.
- Blackwall Tunnel is unaffected by the event.
- Cotton Street, Prestons Road, Westferry Road are unaffected and open as usual.
Specific Areas: Diversions
Beckton
- Access from the Connaught Bridge to Beckton will be via Prince Regent Lane and Tollgate Road
Britannia Village
- If travelling to and from central London vehicles should use the A13, via Silvertown Flyover as the North Woolwich Road A1020, via Silvertown Way remains open
- Traffic can travel via North Woolwich Road, the Connaught Bridge,Victoria Dock Road and Prince Regent Lane to access the A13 which is open in both directions
- Royal Albert Way closed
Canning Town
- Access is possible from Silvertown Way aswell as North Woolwich Road, the Connaught Bridge and Prince Regent Lane
- The A13 is open in both directions
Custom House DLR
- Access is possible via Prince Regent Lane and Victoria Dock Road
Isle of Dogs & Canary Wharf
- Access is possible from the A13 via Cotton Street and Prestons Road
- Westferry Slip to Limehouse Link Closed 0500hrs -1800hrs
Jamestown Way
- A one way access will be in place from East India Dock Road. The diversion will take traffic down Leamouth Road, along Orchard Place, under the Lower Lea Crossing, back to Leamouth Road Roundabout to Newport Avenue.
- The egress diversion will be in place from Newport Avenue along Aspen Way to Preston’s Road Roundabout
Orchard Place
- Traffic should use the A13 and Leamouth Road south to Leamouth roundabout where accessto Orchard Place is maintained at all times
- Exiting traffic will travel west along Aspen Way to Cotton Street where access north or south is available
Poplar
- Access is possible via East India Dock Road A13
- From the south vehicles can use Prestons Road straight onto Cotton Street or Westferry Road
- Limehouse Link closed
London City Airport
- City Airport can be reached at all times from the A13 via Canning Town, Prince Regent Laneand Connaught Bridge or the Royal Docks Road, via Gallions roundabout
- Traffic using Aspen Way should turn left at Leamouth Roundabout and use the A13 for any ofthe above options
- Royal Albert Way dual carriageway is closed throughout the weekend
London Regatta Centre and Yi-ban Restaurant
- Reached via Connaught Bridge, using alternative access via the ExCel Exhibition Centresliproad
