The Helpline is a 24-hour, statewide Victims of Crime Helpline. TDD calls are accepted. Advocates are available to provide confidential support, information, and advocacy on the phone. They are also available to provide in-person support/accompaniment for victims at hospital emergency departments and police departments.

SEXUAL ASSAULT RESPONSE TEAM (SART)

SART is a legal advocacy program intended to offer victims of sexual assault, age 14 years and older, with information and emotional support through their experience with the criminal justice system.

SART is a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach made up of all Rhode Island law enforcement, Day One and the RI Attorney General's Office. SART helps keep victims updated on the status of their case, serves as a liaison between the victim another members of the MDT, provides police and court accompaniments and provides support, advocacy and referral services as needed.

All SART services are provided free of charge. If you would like to access these services, please contact the SART Advocate Coordinator at 401-421-4100, ext. 141.

RI CHILDREN’S ADVOVACY CENTER (CAC)

The mission of the Rhode Island Children's Advocacy Center is to address the need for a coordinated effort among those agencies and professionals dealing with child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse cases, and to reduce the trauma experienced by children once a disclosure has been made and they become involved in the system.

The Center, which opened in 1993, is a program of Day One, The Sexual Assault & Trauma Resource Center. The CAC teams with police, the Attorney General's Office, Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), victim advocates, medical professionals, and mental health providers to help children and families who have experienced the abuse of a child. We work as a team to make a difficult time as comfortable as possible. Our primary goal is to assure the safety and well being of the child.

For more information on the CAC, please contact the Forensic Interviewer/Family Advocate at 401-421-4100, ext. 143.

INDIVIDUAL & GROUP COUNSELING

Day One, The Sexual Assault & Trauma Resource Center, provides counseling services to survivors of sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and incest, and to their significant others. Individual, group, and family counseling are available for both adults and children. In addition, a referral network has been established to provide alternative community providers to clients.

The resource center also offers sexual abuse evaluations and a homicide bereavement program for family members and friends of homicide victims. Counseling services are also available for non-offending family members and friends of survivors.

For more information, please contact the Intake Manager at 401-421-4100 X121.

LAW ENFORCEMENT ADVOCATES

Law Enforcement Advocates provide immediate services to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence who have filed a police report or who are interesting in filing a report. The LEAs also serve as a community resource and often receive telephone calls from concerned friends and family members.

After a victim files a police report, the advocate attempts to make contact with the victim and then offer community based resources as well as emotional support. The advocate provides in-person support when a victim needs to seek medical attention or is interested in filing a police report. In addition, many of the advocates offer court accompaniment during Restraining Order hearings, bail hearings, trials and other related criminal matters.

Below is a complete list of all the Law Enforcement Advocates in the state:

OFFICE OF VICTIM SERVICES

The Office of Victim Services is a collaboration between Day one and the Rhode Island Department of Corrections. It is designed to serve crime victims of inmates who are in custody at, or under the supervision of, the Adult Correctional Institution. OVS can also assist concerned family members of those victims, as well as professional service providers.

The Office of Victim Services is staffed by two crime victim advocates: one advocate is responsible for assisting victims of crime whose offender is currently in custody at the Adult Correctional Institution, as well as running the RI-VINE system. She can be reached at (401) 462-5203.

The other advocate is responsible for assisting victims of sex offenders who are currently under supervision by the Intensive Sex Offender Unit of Probation and Parole. She can be reached at (401) 462-0381.

RI VINE – 1-877-RI-4-VINE
RI-VINE stands for Victim Information and Notification Everyday. It is a free, anonymous, computer-assisted telephone service that provides inmate custody information and notification of changes in inmate custody status. While VINE was created with victims in mind, it is available to anyone concerned about the custody of an inmate at the ACI.
