What wedo

WearearegisteredCharityworkinginSloughandWestLondontoend homelessness. Wehaveover25yearsofexperience and expertise in working with people suffering the effects of homelessness and within our groupweemploy 40 full and part-time staff. We currently support between 40 to 50 people every day by providinghotmeals,showerandlaundryfacilitiesandcoachingtogetahomeandajob.We houseabout250peopleeveryyearand together we provide end to end support for people who have slipped through the net – endhomelessnessand end dependency. The three key qualities that are the ‘trinity’ of assets that everyone requiresforindependence and stability are; a home, people and ajob.

Housingforpeoplesleepingrough,moveonaccommodationandindependentaccommodationforpeopleatriskofhomelessness.Wecurrentlyhave125bedspacesinavarietyofhousesandhouseover250peopleeveryyearaspeoplemoveinandon. Weprovidesupport,foodandself-carefacilitiesinourdayservice.

Awarmplace tocomeandgetsomefoodandhelp tomoveoffthestreets.Ourdayserviceandhouses have1-2-1and group coaching which provides opportunities for learning for people to gain insight and skills forpersonaldevelopment and to get ajob.

Job

Weprovidejobcoachingwithworktastersinourshopsandprovidejobbrokeragewithlocalemployers.Wealsosave over 600 tonnes of unwanted domestic furniture from landfill every year whilst offering goodqualityfurniture that doesn’t cost theearth.

Job Description – OutreachWorker

RoughSleeperOutreachWorker

This service brings support to those who are long-term rough sleeping, who are not engaging withavailableservices,orwhohavebeenseriallyexcludedandneedsupporteventotakeupbasicsupportorhousingoptions.OurRoughSleepersOutreachWorkerengagespeoplethroughstreetwork;meetingpeoplewheretheyareat,while signposting them to relevant agencies and services and appropriateaccommodation.

KeyResponsibilitiesandAccountabilities

YouwillworkprimarilyfromourDayCentreinSlough,meetingwithPolish peoplesleepingroughandyouwillalsobeworkingearlymorningand lateintothenightidentifyingpeoplenewtothestreetsandthoseentrenched.

Followingstrictloneworkingprotocols,youwillactuponreportsprovidedby DayCentreusers,thepublicandpartneragencies.Youwillbuildrelationshipswithindividuals andworkin partnershipwithdrugandalcoholservices,mentalhealthservicesandthePolice,todeliveraservicethatprovidesvitalregularcontact.

Healthyrelationshipsarecrucialtohealingshatteredlivesandweoffersensitivecare,respect,andsupportoftenwhenpeoplehaveno-oneelsetoturn to.Weoperatein anon-judgmental,confidentialandfriendlyenvironmentand our services are open to anyone who has a desire to change theirsituation.

Ourapproachtosupportissolutionfocusedandincludescomplimentaryinterventions;MotivationalInterviewing,AppreciativeEnquiry,BriefTherapyandNeroLinguisticProgramming.Wefundamentallybelievepeoplehave thesolutions to their own problems. We are trained in providing appropriate support to help people discovertheirown unique solutions. This presupposition means that we avoid wearing the ‘expert's’ hat, insteadencouragepeople to discover their ownsolutions.

As Outreach Worker you are responsible for designing appropriate interventions including support plansandsupervisingtheprocessanddeliveringouroutcomesthatempowerpeopletoincreasetheirself-confidenceandsecureappropriateaccommodation.YouwillberesponsibleforallyourownadministrationandreportingtotheDay CentreManager.

Aperson’srighttochooseisacentralvalueofoursupportandoursupportisinformedby theidentificationofaperson’s own awareness of their current circumstances. Implicit in this, is a sort of ‘golden rule’, that ourongoingpersonal development and life processes are linked with his or her work. This gives us the ability tomodelresourceful states and ensures equity as we share our journeytogether.

WeusetheChaosIndexandtheStrengthsChartwhichfocusesspecificallyoneachsupportpathwayandsupportspeople in making changes by providing them with a map of the journey. It works by moving someone froma

‘stuck’statetoastateof ‘self-reliance.’Wefacilitatethecombiningofthesepathwaysthroughbuildingacloseworkingrelationship,notonly withthepeopleweareworkingonbehalfof,butalsowithpartneragencies.

YouwillsupportpeopletomanagemoneyandpersonaladministrationthroughgoodworkingrelationshipswithboththeHousingBenefitdepartmentandJobCentrePlusandbyaccesstodebtcounselling,improvingaperson’sabilitytomanagetheirownfinancesandtherebymaintaintheirtenancy.Youwillfacilitateaccesstoemploymentopportunities,principallythroughourJobCoachtoenablepeopletoachieveemploymentorworkexperience.

Youwillsupportpeopletoaccesslocalhealthcarethroughregistrationwith GPanddentalpractices.Thisisoftenthe easiest route to referral into more specialised services including; drug and alcohol services, mentalhealthservices andcounselling.

Youwillbe workingwithapproximately20people withlowtomediumandsome highersupportneeds.Ourwork,approach and meetings have a normal and straightforward approach in both appearance and substance.Oursupportfollowsanaturalrhythm,ratherthanformalproceedings,thisbreaksdownbarriersandisconducivetoabalanced lifestyle, including; good morning calls, shared breakfasts and evening meals, routine domesticchoresand structured and unstructured activities throughout the day focusing on gaining appropriateaccommodation,independentlivingskills,training,employment,physicalandmentalhealthandfun.Itisthroughthisdailypositiveconnectionthatweareabletoprovidespaceandtimeforpeople toaddressthereasonsthatcaused themtoexperience homelessness and to demonstrate an alternative lifestyle that is a proven long-term solutiontohomelessness.

EssentialRequirements

Yourpurposeforlivingistomakelifebetterforpeople…thissocialconsciousnessis whatdrivesyou…exceptwhenyou are barbecuing on the beach watching the sunset…that day’s just foryou!

You must be fluent in English andPolish.

Youmusthaveexcellentcommunicationskills.Thismeans,youhavetheabilitytobuildrapportquicklyandgainthetrustofpeopleyouarespeakingwith. Flexibilityisabsolutelyessentialtobeinfluentialinourenvironmentaswell as having the ability to set very clear outcomes. You will be experienced in working with peoplesufferinghomelessness and social exclusion and supporting people with problematic drug and alcohol use. You willalsohaveagoodworkingknowledgeofthehomelesssector anduptodateexperienceofthewelfareBenefitsystem.

Goodorganisationalskillsare essentialasis theabilitytoscheduleandmanageyourown workload.Youwillneedtohaveanexcellentknowledgeandunderstandingoftheinternet,plustheabilitytorapidlyabsorbandapplynew technical information. You will need good IT skills e.g. MicrosoftOffice.

A lot of organisations say this, but we live it…above all you must be solution focussed and have a natural abilitytomodelthis.

Salary

Scale £20,000 to £23,000 (Pro Rata) depending onexperience.

We pay people on the last day of each month. Pay may be reviewed each year inApril.

Probation

There is a six month probation period for newstarters.
