Conditions of Service

The duties for the post of Curriculum Manager - Creative and Cultural Industriesare outlined in the enclosed job description. The conditions of employment for this post are summarised below. There will be a further opportunity to discuss these if you are invited for interview.

Hours of Work

The hours of work for this post will not exceed 36 hours per week.

Salary

This post has been evaluated on LEC CMScale, Point 40this currently equates to £42,474per annuminclusive of London Weighting.

For Lecturers who do not have a teaching qualification, your salary will be frozen at Point 31 of the salary scale until you have obtained the relevant Initial Teacher Training qualification (either DTTLS, Certificate of Education, PGCE, C&G 7407, Cert if FE Teaching Stage 3, Edexcel Cert in FE Teaching, OCR Cert in FE Teaching or a Bachelor of Education degree).

Salaries are paid monthly on the 25th of every month or the last working day prior to the 25th if the 25th falls on a weekend or bank holiday. The only exception to this is for the December payment, which will be on an earlier date that will be notified to you on an annual basis. Payment will be made direct into a bank/building society account. You will need to provide details of your branch, account number and sort code before payment can be made to you.

Annual Leave

The Annual Leave entitlement will be 35 days per annum inclusive of all Bank and Public Holidays normally observed in England and Wales. The College also shuts for an additional 5 efficiency closure days plus 3 statutory days which the Principal will set at the beginning of the academic year. Although every effort will be made to meet requests for Annual Leave, service demands will take preference. All leave is subject to an efficient service being maintained and specific restrictions may apply.

Pension Scheme – Teachers’ Pension Scheme

Contributions are based on a percentage of annual salary for Employees before tax is deducted and the College also makes a contribution to the scheme. Additional voluntary contributions can be arranged via AVCs or Added Years. Applicants must make a decision whether to contribute or not. Probationary Period

Appointment will be subject to a probationary period of nine months in the first instance.

Staff Development

As part of the Contract of Employment, all appointees will be required to attend staff development events and take part in the College’s appraisal scheme.

SUMMARY OF POST
Reporting to the Curriculum Director, this role will be responsible for the operational management of a designated curriculum area within the curriculum directorate. The post holder will be responsible for the effective and consistent operation of the curriculum area including: accurate and timely completion of activities, processes and procedures as identified in the curriculum operations framework.
The post holder will work closely with Heads of Business Support/Services to ensure that curriculum learners and curriculum staff are supported as required.
The primary purpose of the role of Curriculum Manager is to:
  • Be responsible for the operational management and leadership of learner recruitment, the total learner experience, successful achievement of qualifications and progression of learners;
  • To lead, manage and develop the curriculum team delivering your curriculum area and to the learners within your designated area;
  • To lead and manage the development of the curriculum and its resources to ensure it keeps abreast of the latest occupational changes associated with your curriculum area;
  • To actively engage with the cross college leadership and management functions, led by others, that impact upon your curriculum areas, learners, staff team and curriculum delivery;
  • To lead and manage the CTL(s) within your curriculum area and under your curriculum management.
  • This post carries a teaching commitment of 10 hours per week

Main duties, key tasks and responsibilities to:
  • Bring strong curriculum expertise and quality management to the delivery of the curriculum area. To lead and take overall responsibility including line management of curriculum team leaders, coordinators and staff team within area designated.
  • To lead and have curriculum development responsibility for the curriculum area.
  • To co-ordinate and monitor the work of the staff team designated to curriculum area.
  • Take responsibility for the overall curriculum management of the team, keeping abreast with new developments affecting area of responsibility and advise the Director accordingly
  • To be part of the management team, leading on designated curriculum areas and coordinating related X-College initiatives for staff and learners.
  • To plan & lead the future development, taking a positive and sensitive attitude to change management in order to take advantage of new opportunities.
  • Provide strong curriculum leadership in encouraging wider participation and growth and responding positively to the Government initiatives and policies for Further Education.
  • To be proactive in developing, facilitating and supporting curriculum change in order to meet local needs, fostering a positive relationship across the Borough and within the immediate local community.
  • To carry out staff time tabling and local budget management within and for curriculum teams, with particular reference to the operational management of physical and human resources.
  • To develop and ensure the delivery of a high quality learning experience to all learners and to promote high standards of teaching.
  • Develop and embed internal quality improvement systems consistent with overall College quality practice.
  • Setting and monitoring targets for learner participation, retention, achievement and success.

  • To be responsible for the management of the curriculum team staff members with regard to probationary, disciplinary and other related procedures.
  • Provide professional advice and assistance to Curriculum Team Leaders in developing curriculum offer
  • To lead and support others in implementing consistent and coherent standards, policies and practices in relation to providing a quality curriculum offer across the Sector.
  • Participate in the Staff Development Review and Appraisal scheme. Undertake in- service training based on an agreed assessment of individual and service needs.
  • Give guidance and monitoring support to continually improve standards of curriculum delivery and learner retention, achievement, success and progression.
  • Support the Director to ensure that accurate, complete and up-to-date data is input onto the corporate database and other information storage and retrieval systems.
  • To teach on College premises or off site. Undertake learner recruitment, induction, tutorial work, associated outreach work, residential, open and distance learning work and student placements.
  • Undertake associated organizational/administrative work, together with preparation and marking associated with timetabled work.
  • Undertake related appropriate learner recruitment, welfare and academic counselling.
  • To ensure continuous improvement in the grade profile of teaching, learning and assessment in the curriculum.
