Thank you for attending the Town's public meeting to discuss RSU 1 withdrawal options. The selectmen and withdrawal study committee wanted to inform you of the petition and referendum vote process and get opinions on what matters to our residents. We appreciate and look forward to your continued participation in discussion as we move forward. It is gratifying and encouraging to see such attendance on short notice.

We anticipate that the Selectmen will direct the committee to move forward at their next regular meeting, Monday October 28 at 5:30.

We have a lot of work ahead of us. The withdrawal studycommittee looks forward to working with members of the public as we continue to learn and sort through to try to make some sense from it. The better informed everyone becomes about these issues, the better informed decision we can make when the time comes to finally decide the future of our association with RSU-1, our own West Bath School, and most important: the future needs of our children’s education and wellbeing.

Information and messages will be sent out as content becomes available and ready to distribute. This forum (Town of West Bath web site) will be the central depository of information. All of us serving on the committee as well as the Selectmen, Town Administrator Jon Davis, and Town Clerk Rob Morris are prepared to assist with information, and any questions that you may have. Please feel free to contact anyone.

Once the process leading to a decision reached by the public begins, State law requires strict compliance and tight schedule deadlines for a multi-step process. Once we begin the process, it is our desire to be as well informed and familiar with the requirements as we can be. We want to be able to get through this process thoughtfully and deliberately. We want to be ahead of the process rather than chasing it.

We will be in touch as information becomes available. Several public information forums are anticipated to keep everyone up to speed on what’s going on. We look forward to serving the Town and working with everyone to resolve this latest important issue.

We ask that everyone share this message with someone who may not have received it, encourage folks to request to be included in our e-mail list (see Rob M.) and to please consider taking part in some way in this process before us.

Thank you
