THAMES CHAPTER HERITAGE CLUB NEWS

FALL 2016

Hello,

Well, after a too short summer, and wonderful early fall season, so far:) it is time to think about snow tires, winter gear and all the stuff the upcoming season requires. It is also the time to say good bye, for awhile, to all those lucky enough to be heading for warmer climates. But first:

Golf

Thanks to all who came out Wednesday mornings to play a friendly round of golf with our other members and friends. A special thanks to Bob Doyle, Jim Leader and Don Miatello who helped organize this activity.

On August 31/16 we held our Annual Golf Tournament. We had very enthusiastic group show up again this year to play 12 holes of golf and enjoy a wonderful steak dinner afterwards. Newcomer Gail Daer won the women’s trophy and Don Manns won for the men. Congratulations to them both!

Reunion Banquet

I would like to express my appreciation to those of you who came out to our Annual Reunion Banquet on October 29/16. It was great to see so many old friends and colleagues again. It was also nice to meet some members who travelled from outside of London to join us. After a fantastic meal we were entertained by a stand-up comedian & You Tube host Mr Jeff Leeson. Once again our main draw was for an “I-Pad Air 2”. The happy winner was Marion O’Neil who was looking forward to taking it with her to enjoy in Arizona. After the “official” part of the evening was over, we had a good time sitting around reminiscing about the “good old days” at Canada Post.

***It is getting to be that time of year again when all our members need to renew their memberships and become “active members” in the Heritage Club. To do this, please make out a cheque in the amount of $10.00, payable to the Thames Chapter Heritage Club and send it to: Doug Anderson, Box 811, 34481 Granton Line, Granton On,N0M 1V0. I will send you your 2017 membership card on receipt of your payment. Your continued financial support and active participation in our activities help us to continue to have a successful Heritage Club.

Activities

We are looking at the possibility of offering a bus trip to the Detroit Auto Show on January 19/17. The cost will be $65.00 for active members and $70.00for all others. If you would be interested in going, get in touch with me,(Doug Anderson) and if enough members respond I will notify the bus company to set aside a group of seats for us.

Salvation Army Christmas Hamper

We are asking our members to help with the Salvation Army Christmas Hamper campaign.

You can help needy families by knitting (or purchasing) items such as scarves, mitts, toques, sweaters etc. Also see the enclosed flyer for many other categories that would be suitable for donation.Contact any member of your executive to pick up these items.

Santa Letter Writing

Once again this year the Thames Chapter will be involved in answering the letters that children have written to Santa.

This is one of the most rewarding activities that we are involved in. Our volunteers will get together on Monday nights (Nov. 28, Dec. 5, 12 & 19) from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the cafeteria at 955 Highbury Ave, the Canada Post Administration building.

We send the kids personalized “form” letters that are already typed up, but we can add comments about the great artwork etc. that they included in their letter. If you would prefer to answer the letters from your home this may also be arranged. So consider coming out for a couple or all of the evenings and take part in this great tradition. To become a volunteer please contact: Dianna Snell-519-601-0085, or Doug

Salvation Army Kettle Campaign

Once again Thames Chapter volunteers will be at the Salvation Army Kettle in the Masonville Mall. We will be there Saturday November 26th from 11.am to 8pm. near the food court. We are in need of volunteers for this activity. If you can find the time to help for either I or 2 hour shifts please get in touch with Doug Anderson.
