Behavior Definitions

Major/ Minor

Bullying
Major: Physical: Use of overt bodily acts, such as hitting, tripping, shoving, slapping, punching, kicking, damaging or destroying personal property, hazing, or biting, to gain power over peers
Verbal: Use of language, such as name calling, teasing, taunting, threatening, cruel criticism, belittling, personal defamation, racist slurs, sexually suggestive and/or abusive remarks, or extortion, to gain power over peers
Cyber: Use of any electronic communication device through means including, but not limited to: e-mail, instant messaging, text messages, blogs, mobile phones, pagers, online games, and websites to gain power over peers
Relational: The systematic diminishment of a targeted student’s sense of self with the goal of hurting them or sacrificing their standing within their peer groups. Examples include ignoring, isolating, excluding, shunning, and gossiping. / Ex. Harming someone
Lying /Cheating/Theft
Major Lying: Delivering a message that is untrueand/or deliberately violating rules
Major Cheating: Turns in falsified message or work.
Major Theft: Teacher discretion (value of property, number of items, frequency) / Ex. Copying work
Ex. Took $10
Minor: Teacher discretion (value of property, number of items, frequency) / Ex. Took Pencil
Disruption
Major: Behavior causing an extreme interruption in a class or activity or causes potential safety concerns. / Ex. Continuous yelling, Loud talking over teacher, Throwing objects
Minor: Brief and low intensity interruption of class or activity / Ex. Talking out, Loud voice
Fighting /Physical Contact
Major: Physical contact with intent to harm / Ex. Punch, kick, hit, bite, spit on someone
Minor: Unable to keep hands to self; causing bumping and pushing / Ex. pushing
Abusive /Inappropriate Language
Major: Intense profanity, inappropriate subject matter, or threat directed at an individual or group / Ex. You are a * * I’m going to * * you
Minor:Low intensity inappropriate language (name calling, situational profanity, slang terms) / Ex. Oh ****
Overt Defiance/Disrespect
Major: Absolute refusal to follow directions, talking back or rude disrespectful interaction that disrupts the learning of others. / Ex. Refusal to move from setting
Minor: Brief low intensity failure to follow adult directions / Ex. Head down, Not Working
TechnologyViolation
Major: Intentionally visiting inappropriate websites, plagiarism or serious inappropriate use of cell phone, music/video players, camera / Ex. Sending text messages in class
Minor: Student engages in non-serious but inappropriate use of cell phone, music/video players, camera, and/ computer / Ex. Going to preferred site (ie: webkinz)
Threat/Harassment
Major:Actions causing fear or harm without physical attack: intimidation, individual harassment, hate-related harassment, sexual harassment, school threat / Ex. Threatening to harm someone
Vandalism/Property Damage /Property Misuse
Major: Cause permanent damage to property / Ex. Carving in desk, destroying school property
Minor: Misuse of property / Ex. Writing on desk
DressCode Violation
Major: Repeated clothing/message violations over time / Ex. Inappropriate slogans on clothing.
Minor: Wearing clothing that does not follow school dress code; or displays inappropriate message / Ex. spaghetti straps
