Terms and Conditions

I, the above signed, understand that I have entered into a Textbook Rental Agreement with The Curtis McGraw Bookstore at Elmira College. My signature above indicates that I have read, understand, and agree to the terms and conditions as described below.

  • I am at least 18 year of age and have entered into this Textbook Rental Agreement with The Curtis McGraw Bookstore of my own free will. I understand that the rented textbook is the property of The Curtis McGraw Bookstore and that I will return the rented textbook in salable condition to The Curtis McGraw Bookstore. I am responsible for any loss of theft of the rented textbook.
  • I will pay the Rental Fee at the time of the order. I may use Visa, MasterCard, American Express, debit card, or Bookstore Charge Account. ONE rental fee applies per title and rented textbooks may be in NEW or USED condition.
  • I will maintain a Bookstore Charge Account in good standing. I understand that any applied fees will be charged to the Bookstore Charge Account.
  • I can rent designated textbooks at any time during the term while supplies last. The Rental Fee entitles me to use the rented textbook for the entire term in which it was rented.
  • I may return the rented textbook early; including upon withdrawal from Elmira College or upon a Leave of Absence from Elmira College, but WILL NOT be reimbursed for any portion of the Rental Fee.
  • Option to Buy: I have the option to purchase the rental textbook within 14 days of the 1st day of classes. The rental fee will be refunded. I must present the rental textbook. I will be charged regular retail price based on the textbook’s original condition: new or used.
  • Class is Dropped: Rented textbook can be returned for a full refund during the SECOND week of classes. Rented textbook, receipt, and a signed drop/add slip required.
  • Refunds: Rental Fees will be refunded only (1) upon proof that the course was cancelled by Elmira College, (2) the class is dropped, or (3) rental textbook is subsequently purchased from the Curtis McGraw Bookstore.
  • Rented Textbook Return Date: I will return the rented textbook(s) to the Curtis McGraw Bookstore within 48 hours of the last final exam for the term in which the textbook was rented. Returns will NOT be accepted after 7 days from the last final exam for the term in which the textbook was rented. Returns sent via mail, UPS, or other shipping method must be postmarked and shipped on or before the 5th day after the last final exam for the term in which it was rented.
  • Failure to Return: If I fail to return the rented textbook by the 7th day after the last final exam for the term in which the textbook was rented, I authorize Elmira College to charge the associated fees as outlined below to my Bookstore Student Charge Account. The Curtis McGraw Bookstore is not responsible for reminding me of the Rental Return Date. Rented textbooks returned to the Curtis McGraw Bookstore, whether or not in damaged, unusable condition, or good condition, will not be returned to me. Unusable textbooks will be disposed of at the discretion of Elmira College.
  • Conditions upon Return: Minimal highlighting and writing in rented textbooks is permitted and acceptable. However, rented textbooks must be returned in complete and salable condition. The means the spine of the book is intact, there is no damage to the textbook, and all component parts of the book are present. The Curtis McGraw Bookstore determines salable condition and all such decisions are final.
  • Payment Security: Bookstore Charge Account: I will not cancel or exceed the purchasing limit of my Bookstore Charge Account as listed above until the rented textbooks have been returned to The Curtis McGraw Bookstore or until all fees associated with non-returns and damages are paid.

I understand that (1) in the event that the Bookstore Charge Account on file for this agreement is no longer valid or in the event that the purchasing limit of said account has been exceeded, Elmira Collegewill bill me through the Student Account Office at Elmira College. (2) If it becomes necessary to turn any accounts over to a third party for collections, I agree to pay any additional collections costs which will be added to the outstanding balance. (3) Registration privileges for future classes may be revoked if fees remain unpaid.
