Þ  When requesting service by the Sheriff’s Office, Certified mail, Registered mail, publication or posting, copies must be paid for in advance. If copy fees are not included, your filing will be returned for correction.

Þ  Want to see a file marked copy of your filing?

o  You can view a file marked copy of your filing online via our public access portal or through your respective EFSP once it has been accepted.

o  File marked copies are also available in your confirmation e-mail notification.

Þ  Want to know what court was assigned to after it was filed?

o  You can view your court assignment on line via public access by going to the Dallas County website at www.dallascounty.org and click on ONLINE RECORD SEARCH under QUICK LINKS.

Þ  A case is unavailable for filing electronically?

o  Check your case! Cases coded as Confidential or Sealed are NOT available for subsequent filings online.

o  You may e-file a brand new confidential case. However, once it is accepted, it will be coded as confidential, and you will not be able to file subsequent filings into the case.

o  Attorney General Cases (Family IV-D case category) will not be available for filing until after the implementation of the mandate.

Þ  Filed a case but didn’t get an envelope number?

o  Check with your respective EFSP- If you did not get envelope number, we did NOT receive your filing!

Þ  When filing into an existing case there is no need to add the parties; they already exist on the case. Filers only need to add NEW parties to a case.

Þ  Confused about which drop down to use?

o  Case categories:

§  Civil – General Litigation – open to all filers

§  Civil – Government – For use by state agencies and/or the District Attorney’s Office only.

§  Family – General Litigation – open to all filers.

§  Family – Government – For use by state agencies and/or District Attorneys and Public Defenders.

§  Family – IV-D – open to all filers, Attorney General’s Office and state agencies, District Attorney and Public Defender filing into a IV-D case.

·  General filers should not use filing codes beginning with OAG or GOVT

§  Juvenile Family – General litigation – open to all filers

§  Juvenile Government – For use by state agencies and/or the District Attorneys and Public Defenders.
