DALLAS - The Bath House Cultural Center, in collaboration with the Texas Photographic Society, presentsTPS 27: The International Competition, an exhibition of of photographs. A reception will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018, from 7 to 9 PM, featuring live music by Mack Price. The exhibition, reception, and all other events related to this program are free and open to the public.

TPS 27: The International Competition, an annual photography exhibition of the Texas Photographic Society, now in its 27th year, was juried by Kate Breakey, renowned visual artist based in Arizona. The show is opened-themed and highlights fifty images by 43 artists from 18 states as well as Canada. TPS 27 is set to travel to The Center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene, Texas, as well as Options Gallery at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas, over the course of the next year.

The exhibition features works by Linda Alterwitz, Zia Ayub, Anne Berry, Victoria Bracken, Joel Butler, James Cooper, Anastasia Davis, Patricia de Ocio Dudley, David Dennard, Chance DeVille, Norm Diamond, Haakon Donnelly, Anne Eder, Thomas Foster, SteffaniFrideres, NadideGoksun, Diana NicholetteJeon, April Kao, Eleanor Kerr, Karen Klinedinst, Kendra Laflin, Irwin Lightstone, Marilyn Maxwell, Calli McCaw, Christine Meytras, Robert Moore, Linda M. Morrow, Dale Niles, George Nobechi, Andrew Ortiz, Neal Panton, SirousPartovi, Justin Ruiz, Joshua Sariñana, Catherine W. Singer, Peter Stern, Peter Stitt, JP Terlizzi, Beckwith Thompson, Ashton Thornhill, Mark Vitaris, Lynn Whitney, and Clifford Wright.

The juror, Kate Breakey, is internationally known for her large-scale, richly hand-colored photographs, including her acclaimed series of luminous portraits of birds and flowers called Small Deaths [University of Texas Press, 2001]. Since 1980, her work has appeared in more than 100 one-person exhibitions and in over 60 group exhibitions in the United States, France, Japan, Australia, China and New Zealand. Breakey's work is held in many public institutions including the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University in San Marcos, the Austin Museum of Art, the Australian National Gallery in Canberra and the Osaka Museum in Japan. Her third book, Painted Light [University of Texas Press, 2010] is a career retrospective that encompasses a quarter century of prolific image-making.

Texas Photographic Society (TPS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 that celebrates the photographic arts, inspires creative development, and provides opportunities to engage with the community. Location and hours: The Bath House Cultural Center is located on the eastern shore of White Rock Lake at the end of Northcliff Dr. off of Buckner Blvd. at 521 E. Lawther, Dallas, TX 75218.
