Notice of Race

For the

2012Texas Team Race Challenge

March 24-25, 2012

  1. Rules. This team race event will be governed by the Racing

Rules of Sailing (RRS), including Appendix D, this Notice of Race (NOR) and the Sailing Instructions (SIs).

  1. Invitation. The Texas Corinthian Yacht Club as the Organizing Authority and challenging host extends this invitation to compete in the 2012Texas Team Race Challenge Trophy also known as the “Texas Shoot-out”. The format will be one or more round robins, with the possibility of a championship round(s). Final format and rotations will be provided in the Sailing Instructions.
  1. Boats. Twelve privately-owned Sonars with club-owned sails will be provided for the 3-boat teams. Standing rigging shall not be adjusted, except by direction of the organizing authority. There will be no spinnakers used in the regatta.
  1. Eligibility and entry.Each club team will consist of 3 boats. Priority will be given to clubs that have a bone fide fleet of Sonars in good standing with US Sonar Association. In the event there are only 5 or less clubs with Sonar Fleets, then TCYC can invite a non Sonar-fleeted guest club to compete. The number of crew shall be 3 or 4 (no weight limits). All crew must be members of the club they represent. However, substitutions who are not team club members may be admitted at the discretion of the PRO.
  1. Fees and deadlines. The entry fee is $1,250 per team and includes trophies, boat usage, breakfast, lunch and dinner (Saturday night). Additional tickets for Saturday night dinner may be purchased at check-in. Completed entry forms and fee must be submitted to TCYC by January 27, 2012. Both may be mailed to the address below:

  1. Damage Deposit. TCYC borrowed boat insurance will cover Sonars and support boats during the regatta. Each skipper will be required to provide a damage deposit equal to the insurance policy’s deductible prior to the start of racing by providing a Visa or MasterCard (no debit cards) at check-in. The deductible amount is the extent of each skipper’s liability for any one incident. In the event a deduction as a result of a damage or deposit is wholly used, the skipper will be required to replenish the deposit to the original amount before the team will be permitted to continue to compete in the regatta.
  2. In the event there is damage by a competitor not covered by the insurance and no one has acknowledged responsibility, the cost of the repairs will be charged to all the designated skippers on a pro rata basis. Any deposit remaining at the conclusion of the event will be refunded within 30 days.
  1. Schedule. Friday March 23, 2012 – Team registration and those staying on campus will be assigned housing. The bar and restaurant will be open for an informal welcoming reception of competitors. TCYC accepts all major credit cards for purchases for the guest cabanas, in the bar and dining room.

8.Venue and courses. Sonars are kept on slings at the end of the TCYC pier and racing will be conducted on GalvestonBay with the course details to be provided at the skipper’s meeting.

9. Prizes. The name of the winning yacht club will be inscribed on the perpetual trophy and a suitable keeper trophy will be awarded to the top three finishes.

10. Scoring. Each race will be scored in accordance with RRS

Appendix D3. The series scores will be in accordance with RRS Appendix D4.

11.Life jackets. All competitors shall wear US Coast Guard

approved PFDs at all times while on the water, except when adding or removing clothing.

12. Responsibility. Texas Corinthian Yacht Club is not responsible and will not accept any liability for bodily injury, death orproperty damage suffered from any cause. Each competitor participates in this regatta entirely at his/her own risk and waives any and all claims, including those arising from negligence or lack of due care, which he/she may have against the Texas Corinthian Yacht Club, its regatta committee, and its officers, trustees, committee members, members, agents or employees. Assistance, if any, from the regatta committee or other Texas Corinthian Yacht Club vessels, or other patrol boats, from any personnel manning them, is entirely at the risk of the competitor.

13. Spectator boats. A spectator boat will be available for non

sailing guests.
