Misc Operating System Problems

1.  Create a folder in your network folder (U: Drive). Rename the folder to "PracticeTest4"

2.  Using Search, find the file mspaint.exe on your system. What is it's path?

3.  Copy mspaint.exe into the PracticeTest4 folder

4.  Using Search, find the folder containing all your web favorites…What is its path?

5.  Copy the Favorites folder into the PracticeTest4 folder

6.  Go to the CSIS 1 Website, save the file Test4Study.doc into your PracticeTest4 folder.

7.  Save the file weather.xls into your PracticeTest4 folder

8.  Save the file movies_lab3p2.mdb into your PracticeTest4 folder

Excel Problems

9.  Open weather.xls in Excel

10. Complete the spreadsheet by calculating the statistics Average, Maximum, Minimum, Mode, Median and Standard Deviation. These are all functions—some may require searching for using the fx button's search feature.

11. Create a chart showing the data in rows 3 to 14 in two separate plots—chart1 should show the first two columns and chart2 should show the second two. Use an xy plot for chart1 and column plot for chart2. (this is harder than you will have to do, it's from my engineering class)

12. Save the file as a new file called weatherDone.xls

Access Problems

13. Open movies_lab3p2.mdb in Access

14. Make a query that shows all the movies by Gus Van Sant

15. Make a query that shows all movies titles beginning with letter 'L' to 'Z'

16. Save the database after changing.

File Compression Problems

17. How big is the movie database file? _____

18. Compress the movie database file into a zip file…now how big is it?

19. Move up out of the PracticeTest4 folder to the top folder of your network directory.

20. Make a new folder called archive.

21. Copy the entire contents of your directory into folder archive

22. Compress your folder archive… to archive.zip. how big is it? ______

HTML Problems

23. In your top directory make a new .html file called web.html. (Easiest to do using Notepad, new file, save as, type: all files, web.html)

24. Make a simple web page in this file showing the heading "Archive"

25. Add a hypertext link to your page to the archive.zip file

26. Open your page in Internet Explorer. Click on the archive.zip link, open and extract the archive folder onto your desktop

27. Using an FTP program, Copy web.html and archive.zip to your public_html folder.

28. View your website online and see if the page comes up properly.

29. Go home, open and download your archive to your home computer. Congrats! You have a complete archive of your class work.
