Dear Parents, Carers and Governors

This week’s Anti Bullying theme was Power for Good. We explored with children the difference between one off mean or rude behaviour and bullying and how bullying is repetitive with one person or group of people having the power over an individual. The idea of this theme was to encourage children to have the power to report and tell someone about bullying so that it can be stopped.

Christmas Competition Winners

Both the Rotary Club and the Local Council have organised competitions this term and we are very pleased to announce that we have some winners and runners up. The winner of the Rotary Club poster competition is Daisy Hubert. You will see her poster around the town advertising the Christmas Lights switch on event that is being held on Friday 25th November. Congratulations Daisy – there will be a presentation for you at school next week.

Runners up in the Christmas Cards and Lights competition organised by WODC will be announced in assembly on 2nd December where the Mayor will come and present their prizes. We won’t announce their names just yet so that it is a surprise on the day! Well done to everyone who took part.

Nasal Spray Vaccination for Years 1,2 and 3

This will take place next Thursday for children whose parents have returned their consent forms. It is important to note that if children have had recent episodes of wheezing in the last 3 days and/or steroids treatment in the last 2 weeks then they are not fit enough to have the vaccination. Parents are therefore asked to let us know if this is the case so we can pass the information on to the nursing team so that vaccination can be delayed until it will be most effective for these children who are at high risk of becoming very unwell if they contract flu.

Children not vaccinated on the day because of absence or illness, or who have returned their consent forms too late, will be invited to the School Health Nurses catch up sessions later in the year. Only children whoare at high risk from flu due to one or more medical conditions are able to have this vaccination at their GP surgeries.

Please see below a link to the ‘Flu Heroes’ videoif you wish to show your child before the vaccination session; it runs for 1.38 minutes and has been very helpful in preparing children at other schools and reassuring them that the vaccination is a quick and painless spray up their nose:

Internet Safety Evening for Parents

Please let us know if you would like a crèche facility available for this workshop on Monday 28th November at 6.30pm by ringing the school office. We will endeavour to provide one if the demand is great enough and if it will enable parents to attend. With children having greater access to the Internet and social media these days the workshop will be a great source of information in helping us all understand the practical ways in which we can keep our children safe on line.

Bedtime story for Reception and Nursery classes
