FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to our new families
We have had a number of new families join our school over the last couple of weeks. We trust your time with us at Minden is both rewarding and enjoyable.
Fire Ants Demonstration
On Tuesday, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry gave a 45 minute interactive demonstration about the effects and hazards of fire ants. The
show featured an odour-detection dog named AKA who showed the students how he had been trained to detect fire ants. Many students have commented that theyhave seen and heard the DAFFs helicopters flying around the area in a bid to detect signs of fire ant activity. Minden school was inspected earlier in the year and given the “all-clear”.
Emergency Management Procedure
Last Friday the school practised the correct procedure to respond to a “Lockdown” callout. It is pleasing to note that the children are becoming more familiar with our responses to Emergency situations and take these practices seriously. In the event that Minden has to ever respond to a real Fire or Lockdown threat, all students and staff will be well-prepared and know how to respond.
Health and Physical Education Week
This week our nation acknowledges the important work that people in the Health,
Recreation and Physical Education industries perform on a daily basis. For schools, Wednesday was officially National PE Teachers Day. On behalf of the Minden school community I would like to publicly acknowledge the contribution that our PE teacher –Mr Josh Elwell- makes to ensuring that PE is educational and fun. From organising
Athletics Carnivals to Gala Days and our annual camp, Mr E ensures Minden students
have multiple opportunities to participate in a wide range of activities that other schools
do not get to enjoy.
National Teacher Aides Day
On Friday 6 September, schools around Australia will say thank you to their Teacher Aides for making a significant difference in the lives of students. At Minden we are fortunate to have a small group of highly competent Teacher Aides who support teaching and learning in classes every day. From all of us in the Minden school community, thanks for making our school a great school.
School Opinion Survey processconcludes
Thank you to all the families who participated in this year’s survey. The winner of the $20 credit voucher was the North family. Results will be released later in the year.
Election Day
This Saturday the school is taking advantage of being a Polling Booth. The P&C will operate a BBQ all day while the Student Council will hold a Cake / Slice / Biscuit stall. Classes will also showcase the wonderful work they have been doing by displaying various pieces of student work. Please show your support for our school by donating baked goods or volunteering your time. The money raised goes directly to YOUR child’s education.
Lost Property
The Office has an enormous amount of lost property, mostly jumpers, hats and long pants. Parents are encouraged to sort through the gear for any items that haven’t been brought home in a while. At the end of the term, any unclaimed property will be washed and donated to the Uniform Shop for purchase as second-hand uniforms.
Borrowed Uniforms
From time to time, students will become ill at school and require a change of clothes.
The school has a small pool of donated uniform items that are used for this purpose.
We would appreciate parents washing and returning these items as soon as possible s
o they can be used by other students in similar circumstances.
