Terlano's 2004 Pinot Bianco: leading variety also a wine rarity

Longevity is something the wines of Cantina Terlano are noted for – at both the national and the international level. With the Terlano wine rarities – and this year's is number twenty in the series – the white wine specialist underscores again and again the storage and ageing potential of its wines. For the 2016 wine rarity, Cantina Terlano has chosen the 2004 Pinot Bianco. As an icon of longevity, this limited edition will as usual be making its official debut at Europe's key wine trade shows, namely Pro Wein and Vinitaly.

"Terlano's Pinot Bianco has always been one of our main varieties. It is a powerful expression of the terroir that brings the grapes to maturity in Terlano. Delicate and above all minerally Pinot Bianco wines are very much our trade mark and Terlano's ambassadors of longevity," says winemaker Rudi Kofler by way of explanation of this year's choice. Since last summer, Terlano's rare white wines have found a home in a new wine rarity cellar, an architectural jewel with space for eighteen stainless steel tanks, in which various vintages going back as far as 1979 are given a worthy place to rest and mature.

"After the grapes were harvested over a decade ago, the 2004 Pinot Bianco spent its first year in oak barrels before being transferred to a custom-built stainless steel tank, where it remained for ten restful years maturing on the fine lees. Since then the wine has spent a further year ageing in the bottle." This, the sixth varietal Pinot Bianco produced since Terlano launched its wine rarities, is impressively fresh on the nose, revealing a constant flow of aromas from fruity to slightly spicy. The wine is smooth and creamy on the palate, with a lively, almost youthful acid structure, which leaves a delicate impression with a counterpoint of minerality.

The Pinot Bianco 2004 is being presented to the trade at the upcoming wine trade shows in Europe, namely ProWein in Dusseldorf on March 13–15 (hall 15, stand G71) and Vinitaly in Verona on April 10–13 (hall 6, stand C3).

Cantina Terlano’s 2016 wine rarity is available from selected wine stores in a strictly limited edition of only 3,402 bottles at a price of € 86 per bottle.
