Response to Question 1 |

Miss Columbia’s School House is a clever depiction of the enslavement of indigenous people that the American Empire seems. The two children out of the school house are the native American people of Hawaii painted in the face of one pool Indian boy who is not quite sure of what he is doing there, but is there none the less in fear that if he disobeys, he would most likely lose his life, or worse, the home to his people that was kept well for hundreds of years. Also, there is Canadian girl who has a rather agreeing look as if she doesn’t mind being a follower of the American ways of life.

Aguinaldo argues that America should be more understanding of those people who fight for their liberties against the tyrannical powers of the world, but they themselves are too engulfed with their own ego that they forget where they came from and are simply acting like those savage empires who storm through the lands taking everything they want without caring whose in their way.

In essence, both the political cartoon and Aguinaldo’s letter are a mirror of the notion that America has no care for the ways in which she goes about helping in the world that would need their support. That is the natives don’t oblige to their rules, consequences are surely to be the inevitable outcome. This can be explained clearly in a Noam Chomsky quote that suggests that “education is a system of indoctrination of the young.” In short, we can see that the outcome for those who follow Miss Columbia’s pedagogy would surely be beneficial to the order of systematic power; otherwise, there would be consequences; hence, Iran and Syria and their oil reserves.

Response to Question 2 |

Eisenhower suggests that rules need to be followed by every American, whether they like them or not. This is famously contradicted by the opposing view of Noam Chomsky that suggests that "the problem with this world is civil obedience." But, for this case, the idea to desegregate the public school system was a respectful law that did need to be commended in order to create the movement that would start to open the eyes of the world for a better tomorrow. It seems that with each approaching decade, the antiquated ideal of racism becomes scarcer.

The Anglo American community is waking up to the serious notions of inequality that are so prevalent through the society they themselves live in, but are neglected to see the reality because of the divided racial perception. For so long they have been blinded from the truth of what the minorities were being faced with, but thanks to more open forms of communication , the white community is no longer blind. For example, the current community movement suggesting the fact that "BLACK LIVES MATTER”, that is evidence that the coming years are to be more opening.

Response to Question 3 |

President Reagan suggests that one must have a positive view of the American history because it has experienced so much through the polemic years. Yet, although this has occurred, there is a sort of historical footnote from which one can reflect and grow as a person, let alone a political body. The events that American went through are not forgivable, but they are reminders and helpers for the current times to grow from.

American has been, at times, evil, racist, cruel, greedy, and neglectful to the people of the world and more importantly to it's own community. But there has always been opposition to the big brother regime that has been the clear and definitive reason of why there is even any sort of progress in this country. America has had a bad past, but the future seems optimistic. Obama said, "Our trials and triumphs became at once unique and universal...in chronicling our journey, the stories and songs gave us a means to reclaim memories that we didn’t need to feel shame about…memories that all people might study and cherish – and with which we could start to rebuild.” That sums up, what i believe is, the coming years of America.

Response to Question 4

American continues her efforts to dominate the world but discretely disguises it by acting like a fighter for democracy. Every person out there protesting for our troops to come back knows that the political action of setting up a friendly government to sell their raw minerals (oil in particular) for cents on the dollar like in Afghanistan, Iran, and the rest of the middle east are masked with frightening and fear inducing stories about terrorists. The only reality of the fact is that although this continues to happen, people are better connected through the use of social media, in particular, the world wide web that not only shows the smeared lies on the big media channels, but more importantly the actual news from those living there and the free press that covers it without censorship.

Nevertheless, the actions of Lady Liberty are still repeating throughout the entirety of the world and no one is doing anything about it. Well, no one but Russia and China who seem to have a bigger stick in the yard and can cripple the country with economics or nukes. We can only expect for a more open future where the media is no longer the main informant of the masses and actual steps can be taken to create a harmony between those countries in disputes throughout the world.

The current debates over racial inequality are more prevalent than ever before. Since the most recent attacks up to date from the local law enforcement on the African American community have sparked another stream of reawakening to the masses at large throughout the United States. From Eric Gardner to Mike Brown, the injustice that they faced before their undeserving death unleashed a storm of conscious revolution that marked an impact within the society as a whole. Obama said on behalf of the Mike Brown case, "I've said this before, in too many communities around the country, a gulf of mistrust exists between local residents and law enforcement. In too many communities, too many young men of color are left behind and seen only as objects of fear." Although the circumstances are as such, a progressive tomorrow is within the horizon.
