CATALOG DESCRIPTION (5-5-0)

A Continuation of MATH 160, this course assumes a basic knowledge of derivatives and integrals. This course includes the analysis of the trigonometric functions and their inverses, methods of integration, an introduction to numerical methods, L’Hopital’s rule for indeterminant forms, improper integrals, sequences and series, and polar coordinates.

PREREQUISITE

Successful completion of MATH 160 a grade of 2.0 or better, or the equivalent.

TEXTBOOK AND MATERIAL

·  CALCULUS early transcendental functions, (4th edition) by larson and edwards from Houghton Mifflin.

·  Graphing calculator. The TI-83 or TI-83 plus from Texas Instruments is highly recommended

Attendance and Participation

Every session will be of great importance to your learning this course. However, if it is necessary to miss any class period(s), you will be responsible for any announcements made, sections covered, and assignments dropped off during your absence.

Regular attendance is essential for success in this class

Homework (12%)

Assignments will be given daily. A tentative list of dates, textbook sections, and problems is attached to this handout. Problems should be completed and ready to turn in by the next class period. Homework should be stapled and neat (answers circle).

Late assignments will not be accepted

In Class Assignment (10%)

In class assignment will be given at unannounced times throughout the semester. There will be no make-ups on missed Assignment; however, the lowest scores will be dropped.

Tests (60%)

Unexcused absent on a test day will be counted as a zero.

Final Exam (18%)

Final Exam (test 5) will be given during the last week of

class.

Final Grade

Your final grade will be based on the percentage of the total points earned during the semester. The grading scale is as follows:

Grading

Your final grade will be based on the percentage of total points earned from your homework, tests, quizzes, and the Final Exam.

To calculate your grade find the percentage of each section and multiplied it by it respective course percentage and add those numbers together.

If you have earned at least a 90% in each section of the distribution of Grades, you will receive a grade of 4.0 and may be excused from taking the Final Exam.

If you have not met the above criteria, you must take the Final Exam

Academic Dishonesty

Any use of form of unauthorized aid or obtaining any help from another individual during test is considered cheating. Any student caught cheating on a test will automatically receive a ZERO for the test. A formal report will be filed. Dishonesty in academic work is considered a serious offense by the College community.
