Tennessee FFA Star Greenhand Regulations
1. The Tennessee FFA Star Greenhand Award is established to recognize outstanding ninth (9th) grade FFA members for their accomplishments at the local, regional, state, and national levels.
2. FFA members in Tennessee can apply for this award if they meet the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in the 9th grade.
b. Have paid their dues at the local, regional, state, and national levels.
c. Have participated in at least five (5) FFA activities at the chapter level.
d. Have participated in at least two (2) FFA activities above the chapter level.
3. Any chapter can submit up to two (2) applicants.
4. All members submitting applications must complete the following:
a. Complete the Star Greenhand application form in its entirety.
b. Submit two (2) letters of recommendation. One must be from a chapter advisor. One must be from a school or community official.
c. Complete a written examination at each level of competition.
d. Complete an interview at each level of competition.
5. The first test and interview will be conducted at the Regional level to select the Regional winner. A selection committee will be established to interview each applicant and administer the examination. The selection committee will select the Regional winner to compete for the State Star Greenhand award at the State FFA Convention.
6. The individuals selected at the Regional level will be notified through their advisor(s).
7. Each Region may chose to recognize their winner with cash, Scholarships, expense paid trips, or other types of recognition.
8. All applications must be submitted to the Regional personnel in Charge of the Star Greenhand program no later than the specified due date of submitting the application. (These may vary by region.)
State Star Greenhand Selection
1. Each region of the state will select and forward the application of one (1) Regional winner to the state office to compete in the State Star Greenhand recognition program immediately after the Regional selection.
2. All Regional winners will be notified of the date for state competition.
3. Each state applicant will be given an exam and complete an interview by the state selection committee on the date of the competition.
4. The State Winner will be announced during the appropriate session at the State FFA Convention.
5. The state winner will be presented a plaque and a check from the sponsoring organization.
