Temporary Summer Camp Teacher – Hudgens Early Education Center

This job is a part time, non-benefited, non – exempt FLSA position in the Hudgens Early Education Center that reports to the Director. This position is TEMPORARY with a maximum employment of 12 weeks.

Schedule:This position is temporary for a period not to exceed 12 weeks.

Work schedule: Flexibility between the hours of 7 am until 6:15 pm, Monday through Friday.

Salary: Targeted salary is between $10.00 and $14.00 per hour commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
The incumbent must meet all of the following minimum requirements:

(1)Never have been found by credible evidence, e.g. a court or jury, a department investigation or other reliable evidence to have abused, neglected or deprived a child or adult or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct;

(2)Be at least 18 years of age;

(3)Have current evidence of successful completion of a biennial training program in CPR and a triennial training program in first aid which have been offered by certified or licensed health care professionals and which dealt with the provision of emergency care to infants and children if the caregiver is to be counted as part of the 50% of the child care staff with the required current evidence of CPR and first aid training;

(4)Not be suffering from any physical handicap or mental health disorder, which would interfere with the person's ability to perform assigned job duties adequately;

(5)Have a satisfactory criminal background check;

(6)Have either a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) or one (1) year's qualifying child care experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associate or Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education or Family & Consumer Science. Prior experience working at the Hudgens Early Education Center.

Job Description Summary:
Under close supervision, assists with planning, preparing and implementing developmentally appropriate activities in assigned curriculum approaches for children attending the D. Scott Hudgens, Jr. Early Education Center at Gwinnett Technical College. Observes and assesses individual children. Assists with requests and maintains assigned classroom supplies, materials and equipment. Assists children by meeting their physical, social, and emotional needs. Assists with meal preparation, feeding of children, and play activities. May operate a motor vehicle to transport children on field trips and to other activities. Provides appropriate information to and/or participates in team conferences. Attends internal and external educational programs and professional meetings.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

2.Prepares a nurturing, warm, safe and sanitary environment.

4.Implements and participates in interest-center play based curriculum for children.

1.Closely observes and evaluates each child's progress and provides written assessment.

2.Properly maintains children's records.

3.Correctly records children's attendance and submits to appropriate personnel within established timelines.

4.Continuously monitors the health and safety of the children and becomes thoroughly familiar with their behavior. Reports unusual symptoms to appropriate personnel.

3.Requests and maintains assigned classroom supplies, materials and equipment. (Performed by all incumbents)

1.Follows organizational guidelines to appropriately order and receive training materials/aids.

2.Makes or modifies instructional materials as specified.

3.Operates duplicating machines and other equipment as needed to produce or reproduce program related materials.

4.Ensures supplies, tools, and equipment are maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and organizational policies and procedures.

5.Stores unused materials in the designated storage areas.

4.Assists children with meeting and maintaining individual physical needs. (Performed by all incumbents)

1.Provides appropriate physical care of assigned children to maintain their cleanliness, safety and comfort.

2.Assists children in their toiletry and dressing development.

3.Assists children in developing appropriate table manners by demonstrating appropriate behaviors at meal times.

4.Closely observes progress in skills development.

5.Reports progress to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

5.Assists with meal preparation, feeding children and play activities. (Performed by all incumbents.)

1.Provides appropriate assistance to staff in food preparation as assigned.

2.Provides appropriate assistance with feeding children during meal periods.

3.Participates in and monitors children during play time activities to ensure safety and security standards are met at all times.

6.Provides appropriate information to and/or participates in team conferences. (Performed by some incumbents)

1.Assists with evaluations to accurately determine the functional level of the child.

2.Effectively works with other team members to develop appropriate long and short range goals and objectives for assigned children.

3.Assists with developing effective individualized plans for achieving established training objectives.

7.Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related seminars and conferences and staff development training. Applies pertinent new knowledge in the performance of other responsibilities. (Performed by all incumbents)

1.Attends internal and external educational programs and professional meetings as available.

2.Attends regular meetings for available and applicable professional organizations.

3.Reads and evaluates professional literature on a continual basis; translates complex or technical information into a format that can be understood by others and distributes as needed.

4.Makes recommendations for any related organizational changes.

8.Observes all policies and procedures established by the D. Scott Hudgens, Jr. Early Education Center, Gwinnett Technical College, the Department of Technical and Adult Education, the Department of Human Resources Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Bright from the Start – Department of Early Care & Learning and the Center of Disease Control's universal precautions and NAEYC accreditation standards..
