ReStartWarehouse Senior Youth Worker

Job Title:Restart Assistant Senior Youth Worker (Riverside Warehouse Project)

Purpose of Job:To assist (and deputise for) the Restart Riverside Warehouse Co-ordinator in planning and running theRestart Warehouse Project. (Evening and weekend working will be required).

Responsible to:RestartRiverside Warehouse Co-ordinator.

Hours:Part time hours to be arranged– up to 15 per week

Salary:£22,017 – £23,400 pa pro rata

Length of Contract: to 31 March 2011, but may be extended, subject to funding

Main Duties:

Programme

  • To take a lead role with the ReStart WarehouseCo-ordinator and staff team in contributing to the development and planning of relevant, varied, exciting and safe programme of activities for young people at the Riverside Warehouse.
  • To take lead responsibility for overseeing the youth provision and staff at agreed times.
  • To develop a comprehensive range of education and learning opportunities for parts of the delivery programme.
  • To enable young people to have access to play, leisure and cultural activity.
  • To work as part of a team in developing and running needs-led programmes.
  • To contribute to the overall supervision of activities and sessions on offer.
  • To lead and contribute to an end of session evaluation / debrief as part of the staff team and to an end of project evaluation and report.

Young People

  • To support young people while they participate in the programme, enabling and empowering participants.
  • To work with young people to identify needs and to use resources available and other agencies to address those needs.
  • Along with the Restart Warehouse Co-ordinator and Senior Youth Worker, to ensure that sessions and activities are needs-led and that young people are listened to, treated with respect, and have their cultural identity recognised.
  • With the rest of the Restart team, to ensure that fully inclusive mechanisms are in place to facilitate effective communication with and active participation of young people in Riverside and Neighbouring areas.
  • Along with the Restart co-ordinator to ensure that Health and Safety requirements are met and other relevant policies and procedures are followed.
  • To be aware of and follow current good practice guidelines for youth work delivery.
  • Along with the Restart Riverside Co-ordinator and Senior Youth Worker, to ensure that the resources are available for sessions/activities and that they are maintained in good working order.

Team

  • To liaise closely with the Restart Warehouse Co-ordinator and full time Senior Youth Worker to ensure the effective operation of the Project.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that all monitoring and administrative procedures are completed and up-to-date e.g. signing in book, session reports etc.
  • To assist the Restart Warehouse Co-ordinator and full time Senior Youth Workeras required.
  • To work with the Restart Riverside Co-ordinator to develop the links between the Project and other agencies.

Person Specification:

Essential Requirements

  • Good management and supervisory skills
  • The ability to work effectively with young people, especially those who may be disaffected.
  • The ability to identify appropriate personal development opportunities related to the needs of young people.
  • A relevant professional qualification.
  • Willingness to be trained and ability to learn new skills as required.
  • Ability to plan sports, arts, leisure and learning activities for young people, meet deadlines, and achieve results.
  • The ability to motivate self and others, working on own initiative, and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organisational skills, knowledge of basic administration, report writing and monitoring and evaluation procedures.
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • The ability to handle confidential information and maintain discretion on sensitive issues.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience of budget management.
  • Fundraising experience.
