Class Hours
9:00 am-11:10pm MW; Sci 145 // Biol 281(1443) and Biol 281H (1150)
Lectures, Team Presentations and Lectures Exams will usually be administered in this facility during class hours.
Text
The text entitled Principles of Biochemistry by Lehninger, Nelson, and Cox is required and intended to augment lecture material. The readings assigned in the attached schedule are subject to examination whether or not the material is covered in class.
Examinations and Grades
Grading is based upon total points earned. Grades will be assigned on a curve similar to the sample curve in this syllabus. At least 50% is required to pass the course.
LECTURE EXAMS: will betake-home, and must be typed.
Midterm...... 150 pts
Comprehensive Final...... 200 pts
Total Lecture points...... 350 pts

TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE...... 400 pts
Lecture Exams: All questions will be answered on exam forms provided. Make-up lecture exams will not be given unless absence is due to a College recognized emergency and verification is provided. If you are late for an examination, no extra time will be allowed.
Team presentations: This activity is explained in attachments to this syllabus. Professor Harmer will coordinate this activity.
Honors : These activities are explained in an addendum to this syllabus. If you are an Honors student, be sure to obtain this addendum. Professor Daniel will corrdinate these activities.
Extra Credit: 25 points of extra credit are available in this course. Extra credit points can be earned by attending appropriate lectures, or engaging in activities related to topics covered in this class. All extra credit activities must be validated by an instructor.
Attendance
Attendance in class is very important. It is your responsibility to keep up with the reading assignments, changes in the schedule, and any other activities outlined by the instructors in class meetings. You may be dropped from the class after three unauthorized absences.
Sample Curve
Letter grades cannot be determined until all of the points have been accumulated at the end of the course. The curve below can be used as a guideline to estimate your standing in the course. A similar but not necessarily identical curve will be made at the end of this class. Borderline grades will be evaluated based on attendance, participation, quiz scores and improvement.

Cheating
This behavior will not be tolerated. Suspicion of this behavior will earn a reprimand. Repeated suspicious occurrences will incur disciplinary action. A student caught cheating will be removed from the class, and the administration will be notified for further action. Peer pressure is one of the best tools against cheating. The identity of any student reporting this kind of behavior will be protected.
