INTRODUCTION

· Atoms are the basic building block of our universe. Atoms make up elements and elements make up the compounds that make up the things that we can see and not see, smell and not smell in our universe. In science, we use models to demonstrate real world simulations. Today we will learn how many parts make up a whole just the way atoms make up the things we see every day in our lives.

MATERIALS & METHODS

● Materials (Plastic Zip-lock Bag, Mallet and a Sugar Cube)

1)  Place the sugar cube inside the zip lock bag, remove the air inside the Zip-lock bag and zip it shut.

2)  Observe the content of the bag. Record your observation

3)  Lightly tap the sugar cube with a mallet. Tapping on it hard will tear the bag.

4)  Observe the content of the bag. Record your observation

5)  Do not open the zip lock bag. Wait until teacher brings a trashcan for you to dispose the bag.

RESULTS

Write a two to three sentence paragraph indicating your observations after the experiment.

DISCUSSION

· Tell in one clear and concise sentence what your study found (remember, it is okay if you didn’t find anything/….don’t make it more than it was) · Support your findings with at least two cited sources (author, year) of other scientist who found the same thing as you. · Next, write down any interesting or unusual findings you found or observed during your study. · Next describe how your study could be improved or made more accurate (Can be things you would do differently next time, or hints to make the project easier). ·Describe further studies that should be conducted to help get a better understanding of your investigation-Should be relevant to your study or your observations.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Short and sweet, thank everyone who made your study possible. Make sure to include all members of your group, and thank the school district for funding the study.
